Ok, so I'm assuming everyone here likes comedy shows. What are everyone's top 5 picks? Mine are
1.Bansai
2.Family Guy
3.Simpsons
4.Newsradio
5.Futurama
Honourable Mention-The Critic
1. Alan Patridge.
2. The day today.
3. The IT crowd.
4. The league of gentlemen.
5. Human remains.
Amy are all the shows you mentioned British shows, because I've never heard of them before.
1.The daily show
2. Brainic science abuse (there showing all three seasons what u brits call series...here in the states)
3.Jackass
4.Celberity deathmatch
5.Scurbs
Are You Being Served.
The Goodies.
Col'n Carpenter.
Fast Forward/Totally Full Frontal.
Scrubs.
I also liked Comedy Company apart from a few of the sketches like that one where this woman pretended to be a little girl. Yes, Eric Bana has gone onto bigger and bigger things since then.
I used to like the way Fast Forward/Full Frontal used to do spoofs of TV ads.
US "Comedies" apart from MASH and early series of the Cosby Show and Golden Girls tend to irritate the # @&* out of me. It's not just the canned laughter, it is their constant harping on popularity and boring problems that bothers me.
"Comedies" I really don't like.
"Will & Grace"
"Dharma & Greg"
"Sex & The City"
"Two And A Half Men"
"Veronica's Closet".
All are very contrived and many of the jokes in them aren't funny.
I didn't care for Friends because they talked about sex too much and I found that embarrassing. That also knocks out shows such as Will & Grace and Dharma & Greg.
I used to like some US sitcoms eg. "Alf", "Small Wonder", and the early series of "The Cosby Show". "Fresh Prince" got stale for me really fast.
I also liked "Home Improvement" and "M.A.S.H" (not exactly a sitcom though).
Apart from "Norman Gunston" and "Full Frontal", I used to like "Col'n Carpenter", "The Paul Hogan Show", "Temperatures Rising", "After The Beep" and "Mind Your Language".
I don't like sitcoms that feature people obsessing over stupid problems or bratty kids.
I think Stewie in Family guy is ... evil!
I found Will and Grace and Dharma & Greg really offensive shows.
Another funny Aussie series was The Paul Hogan Show and who could forget "Kingswood Country". I wonder if Ted Bullpit was a bit Aspie. He had a real fixation about "wogs" and "chronically Catholic kids" who might damage "the Kingswood" and he was always going "Not The Kingswood". I'm not sure if he ever actually drove the Kingswood.
I also liked "Glass Houses", "Comedy Company" and "Full Frontal". Years ago, I liked "Temperatures Rising" and "When The Days Were Rotten".
Paul Hogan Show, Sopranos, Fawlty Towers, Red Dwarf, Any Monty Python
The Goodies, You Can't Do That On Television, Wayne & Schuster, Paul Hogan Show, My Name Is Earl.
Gosh, I'd forgotten You can't Do That On Television!
Mine would include The Goodies, Monty Python, Spicks and Specks.
Any other Australians remember Funky Squad?
The Aussie Funniest Home Videos has certainly gone off in recent years. I mean, this year the winning video was of a kid who'd dropped bits of poop on the ground.
1-Curb your Enthusiasum
2-Seinfeld
3-The Mighty Boosh
4-Podge and Rodge
5-Dr Katz
6-The League of Gentlemen
I'm Sorry I Haven't a Clue
*Cheers!*
Speaking of which, anyone here into I'm Sorry I'll Read That Again, the radio sketch show that eventually evolved into Clue? It has some wonderful literal humour that really appeals to my Aspie mind. ie:
Narrator: They heard a footfall in the hall...
SFX: Clunk!
Graeme: Oh! My foot's fallen off!
Or my favourite:
Narrator: As they drove through the night they sang, to keep themselves awake.
All (singing): "To keep themselves awa-a-a-a-ake!"
Gold.
