Why specifically mention cellphone batteries? These cannot be the only possible sources of environmental mercury. Sounds like he's got an axe to grind

Well in Texas its from burning a low grade coal known as lignite.
Its a high sulfur, dirt looking, low energy coal, that is just below the
surface. Its mined and burned in my county in Texas.
