So, would this screening process have meant no Stephen Hawkings then?
Or Christy brown?
Of corse that's their intent. It's what a load of WPers, myself included, kept trying to get through one stubborn person's head. Not sure if it worked due to connection errors.
Judging from the behaviour, displayed by a lot of the NT students @ my school, I'm not entirely sure they have got the right idea about who to screen for.
As cheezy as it sounds, all the XMEN stuff had that same principle. I was a big fan of the comics back in the day. In a way, aren't we all like mutants- with special "gifts" and excluded from society? I laughed when Magneto in the last movie's trailer said, "They say they want to cure us, but I say we are the cure!" Cheezy line, but hey, isn't that to the point? Big Grin
And what was interesting was how a "cure" was devised for being a mutant and the majority of people took it and then found it came with its own problems.
'Simone Aspis, of the British Council of Disabled People, warned: "Screening out autism would breed a fear that anyone who is different in any way will not be accepted. It would create a society where only perfection is valued." \'

Dang right we would be frighten.
I thought we already had a society like that. Sad
yes.it is upsetting.
right now were shaking in our boot at the mere thought.
I shake in my boots at the thought of society killing off Jews, left-handers or short people, too. However - as with people killing off autistics - I seriously don't think it's anything I have to worry about any more than I worry about a comet hitting the Earth. Tongue It's very unlikely; even this hypothetical genetic screening is decades from existence.

Yes, it's very important to make sure that the victims of a genocide do not take action early on, when they might stand some chance of preventing it.

We are already in the midst of Stages 3 and 4.

Reading all of this it seems to me that Mankind might be reaching a split in species, so to speak.

The NTs that have it all and the ND (neural-different) having nothing, only to end up proving that the NTs have nothing without the NDs as they stagnate in their own mediocre.
Bah, no edit facility Sad
mediocrity.

Yes, I agree with this last comment. Foetuses actually have no power so can be killed off at will (and are). We can already see what is happening with Down's syndrome. Trying to eradicate autism by preventing people with the gene or genes from being born can't be too far away and we should certainly be worrying.

It might not happen tomorrow but unless our society has a significant change of mind from expecting perfection, there will be much pressure on prospective parents in the next few decades and certainly within our lifetime.

our sons and duaghters could be comprimsed.

It is a spoof on Honda's advert, Mr. Opportunity, an animated character knocking on the inside of your TV screen.
