A new day centre in Kenny Hill, offering care and services for people with autism, has had its official launch.

The National Autistic Society already has a residential home at Middleton House, in Mildenhall, but now residents and other people with autism can make use of the new facilities.

The centre offers cookery and baking lessons, courses, skills for independent living, arts and crafts, music therapy, a snooze room and ICT.

Diane Croker, whose son Andy, 27, uses the centre, said: "He comes two or three times a week and it is lovely. It is calm and it is very peaceful.

"If he is agitated, there is a beautiful sensory room and he is really chilled out. It is a safe haven for him.

"We are so lucky we can have such a wonderful service," she added. "This place lets my son do things I would never dream he could do."

The centre is based in the Old Barn Cottages in Kenny Hill and Craig Engall, manager of the centre, said: "We are hoping to open to families and groups as well as individuals, parents and support groups."
