I know that its unlikely we would be an independant nation, but to have a flag would be a great symbol.
If people have ideas too, others might be inspired design wise.
Any design would need to be allowed to be used freely for anything associated with Autfinity and AFF as a whole.
Personally I would like something with the infinity sign on, not sure what else though.
This is probably way too obvious, but sometimes flag designs are obvious, because they're designed to be "read" instantly:
A medium-to-light blue background behind the main image could convey the idea of an island, as it looks sea-color.
Also this color is often associated with internationality (the UN) and with peace (peaceful cloudless sky, calm ocean).
I'd rather wait until we're a bit further along before doing a flag myself.
Right now we only have a couple dozen active people, and how many are artists?
Countries have thousands of options to draw on, not under a dozen.
You can wait, but by then we will have made flags and chosen one.
We aren't going to be a country of millions.
That's what my son made for me. That specific design is copyrighted by the way, and wouldn't be used for a flag.
This link has some flags that have quite unusual designs.

On the Martinique one it looks like 4 snakes.
What about 4 panels, each representing something?
I know some may feel that it's too soon to make a flag, but we may as well do what we can now, plus enjoy it.
If we aren't going to enjoy ourselves and just have toil, then it wouldn't be much better than anything else.
This is one idea -
OPTION 2

The infinity sign is a mathematical symbol, it's not copyrighted, but each person who drew it, coloured it, etc would own their own design.

 :!:  :groupjump:
I like that.
Any flag could be in a modified version or simpler colours.
Some flag designs are very complex to reproduce, such as the welsh flag with a detailed dragon.
I suppose the most simple are 2 colours and just lines. They are also very dull. No offence to Estonians, but their flag has to be the dullest ever.

I googled it; it's depressing, too.
I hope we can have a flag that's cheerful without offending people's color-tolerance. I did wonder about this design aspect having noticed how many aspies love color/design-busy websites, designs, even rooms (you should see my office!) and how many other aspies have issues with these kinds of designs giving them a headache or dizzy or etc.
We could see it as sort of an extra design challenge, and those always produce extra creativity, no?
Meanwhile, I do intend to post a flag design sometime this week (summer break, yeah!) but I am still percolating ideas in order to get some design of my own in my head... in fact to be totally honest I have no original idea yet. But I hope to, soon. :?
I think it has more to do with the computer (and to a lesser extent on the Imperial Japan one the spiraly-like pattern), than the colors themselves.
I can look at pretty pictures in parrot magazines without issue, however when I see bright patterns on the intenet (like those pop-up ads), I get headaches.
I wonder: are you and the others using flat screen (LCD) or the TV-like ones (CRT?) :?:
Because i have seen where things like eye-fatigue were much more bothersome on CRT screens, for people I know. So why not colors.
This is totally a tangent but I'm just curious.
