Autism Speaks and Kellogg Company Team Up to Bring Autism Awareness to the Breakfast Table This Summer On More Than Five Million Rice Krispies Cereal Boxes

http://tinyurl.com/zj255

Autism Speaks announced today that it is partnering with Kellogg to
bring its message of autism awareness to the side panels of more than five million Rice Krispies cereal boxes. The special Autism Speaks cereal boxes will hit store shelves beginning this month and will appear throughout the summer. In addition to explaining what autism is and that it is increasing in prevalence, the side panel describes some of the most common early signs of autism and encourages parents to talk to their pediatrician if they suspect something might be wrong.

The Kellogg's Rice Krispies awareness initiative coincides with a
multi-year Autism Speaks/Ad Council PSA campaign launched in April. Aimed at the general public, the ads stress that autism is more common than people
think (1 in 166 children is now diagnosed with autism) and encourages
families to learn the signs of autism and talk to their doctor if they
suspect their child is not meeting developmental milestones. The campaign
was created pro bono by advertising agency BBDO and is running across all media platforms, including print, broadcast and cable TV, radio and the
internet.

"We are incredibly grateful to Kellogg for helping us to reach
millions of parents with this critically important information about the
early signs of autism," said Suzanne Wright, co-founder of Autism Speaks.
"Parents need to be aware of these 'red flags' and talk to their doctor as
soon as possible if they suspect a developmental delay. Early intervention
is our best weapon against autism."

"Kellogg has a long history of offering information on health and
wellness on product packaging. We're pleased to be able to share this
important information about autism with consumers," said Jose Alberto
Duenas, director, marketing Kellogg Company.

-----------------------

Here is the Kellogg Company's Wiki that gives all of the products that Kellogg produces (I intend to boycott their products and will email the company and tell them why my family will not be buying their products any longer).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kellogg_Company

I will be civil to the Kellogg company as I understand that they have been misinformed about autism.  Evidently, they do not yet realize that Autistics have friends and family members that do not wish to buy products from companies that want to fund the annihilation of a select group, just because they are different.

you know, they are now treating children like computers.  there isn't a distinct path that children must go through to be healthy, and every child that does not go through the nt path is suffering to go through the nt path, which is everyone's so called natural path.  every child develops diffrently, and that's okay.  sometimes, some of the so called red flags could be red flags to more serious condtions that should be taken care of, like rett's.  my parents didn't have too much of a problem that i developed diffrently than an nt child, they didn't desire for me to be cured.

the red flags is of course saying that autism is bad all the time and nothing good can ever come out of it.  they want to fight autism as being autistic is bad according for them.  being autistic isn't bad, just diffrent.  and yes, autistic is healthy.

i think our socitey is so worried about having the child that meets the parenting books that we have no longer apprecated our kids and their uniqueness, and that's the real tradegy.  we desire a certian kind of child and we don't see the child we have, and this goes for any child.

and you noticed they only say children?  i guess autsitic adults are a myth.

btw, say goodbye to my money kellogs.  like i eat their cereal anymore.  i only eat a few cereals, and none of them are kellogs.

and here's a known fact, the brain does not fully develop until a person is in their early 20's.  i think the frontal lobe is the last to develop.  sorry, way off topic, but that area of my head is just feeling headache right now.
I agree with you braves.
Does anyone have the e-mail address and "snail mail" address for this company that they could post? I intend to write to both. Thank you!
I just went to this link;

http://www .kelloggs .com/us/

(without the spaces of course)

On the site, you may choose US or International but you have to enter an address with a birthdate and phone # too.  It's okay, my life is pretty much an open book these days anyway

I told them (basically) that Autism Speaks does not speak for many Autistics and  that as long as they support an organization (such as Autism Speaks) that wishes to rid the world of Autistics, my friends, family members and I would not be buying ANY products from Keebler/Kellogg.

One nice thing about writing them is they didn't limit my protest email to 50 letters or less like some sites do.....I mean really.....I don't think I can say ANYTHING in 50 letters or less!

Ever wondered where the people running charities get money? the people donating. I do not have a reference for this, but I am pretty sure the guy who founded greenpeace is a very rich man.

Interesting thought...I just went to the website, http://www.charitynavigator.org/ , which rates charitable organizations, and the CEO of CAN makes $200,000 per year and they state that the CEO of NAAR (now Autism Speaks) makes $144,000. Not excessive, but still a LOT of money. Also interesting, this website only rates CAN with 1 star (" Fails to meet industry standards and performs well below most charities in its Cause.") and NAAR with 2 stars ("Meets or nearly meets industry standards but underperforms most charities in its Cause."), out of four possible stars.

I wonder if this is something that could be used to persuade people not to donate to them...I think it is certainly worth mentioning when writing to sponsors, such as Kellog!

An UPDATE on the Kellogg Co. Email Protest:

Sorry I'm kind of late posting this but the Kellogg Company emailed me on June 30th regarding their "Team-Up" with AutismSpeaks.  Here's what they had to say;

Quote:
Dear Ms. Shepard:

Thank you for your comments regarding the Autism Speaks sponsorship. We appreciate hearing your views. We do take your comments and position seriously and please know we have forwarded your comments directly to the appropriate parties.

Kellogg Company tries to be very selective in the causes we sponsor and
every effort is made to be a responsible leader in the industry. Our
Kellogg heritage is to support programs for children with different needs
and this program met the criteria. This is a one-time free printing
sponsorship and does not involve monetary support.  But we do understand since you oppose the mission of the organization, that any support is upsetting.  However, it was our intent to help persons understand autism and realize it is more common than many people think. We apologize if we are missing that goal.

Please be assured that as a company working to maintain the good
reputation we have with our consumers, we do not wish to have our name and products associated with any negative meanings. We assure you that this information will help us in the selection of future sponsorship.

Sincerely,

Yesenia Sanchez
Consumer Affairs Department

I don't know about you, but to me a "a one-time free printing
sponsorship not involving monetary support" does not sound like "Teaming Up" to me.
I think the old "Get on the Bandwagon" advertising/publicity scheme is being played here by AutismSpeaks.  I guess they think if they make it Appear as if big Companies are giving large monetary donations & teaming up with their cause, other Companies and People will want to do the same.

They really make me ill, they use most of the money they get from others on advertising and publicity or on research to eliminate future autistics.  I really want to know just how much is spent on autistic children.  I know nothing is going towards helping autistic adults.

I will write back to Kellogg and I want to give them the names of a few non-profit organizations that really are helping the Autistic Community.

Companies usually want to donate to organizations that are "set up" as Non-Profit Organizations so that they can get tax deductions for their contributions.  I'm having a little trouble at the moment, trying to think of any organizations run primarily by Autistics for autistics that are set up as not-for-profit, though.  I'm sure there aren't many and there really needs to be.  If I'm wrong here, please let me know.

We need to continue to counteract these lousy groups like CAN, DAN and AutismSpeaks and maybe we should ask companies for equal endorsement and funds for education so we can use these donations for a Great Cause... to Cure Ignorance Now.

Autism Diva has posted a blog entry urging all readers to write to Kellogg and providing useful contact information:

autism speaks is just commited to eugenics research to wiping everyone out.  they don't want "demon children" on this earth anymore.  that's all we are to them, demon children, and of course it's children only, never adults.  they belive that autistic children are always bad and nothing good can ever come of it...period.

they are saying learn these red flags as a sign if your child is a demon from hell meant to destroy your lives.  i didn't talk till i was almost three, and my parents didn't cheleate me or try to make me nt becuase of that.  it's not the end of the world if your child does not fit a "perfectly normal" development path, but to say autistic children are the worst things ever and need to be kicked off the curb is horryfing.  that's child abuse where i come from.

autism speaks teaches you to hate any child that isn't normal and treat them like demon children.  it also promotes classing of children and making autistic children be retarded.  i'm glad my parents werent that type that gave up and fell for sterotypes like not finishing high school.  i'm about to finish college, and getting a job and moving on my own within the next year.  autism speaks encourages low standrads for autistics so they can be nothing but a burdern.

sorry, another rant.
braves, I agree with your statement that the way organizations like Autism Speaks and C.A.N talk about Autistic children, is a form of child abuse. They are encouraging their parents to see their children as a burden, as a child they shouldn't place hope or encouragement in because it is pointless.

Also, as you may know, there was that HUGE debacle over Autism Speaks, video Autism Every Day, where originally the mother of an Autistic child said she would have "Rather drove herself and her child off a bridge" than send them to a special school. Which brought up the whole, oh when a NT child is murdered it's a tragedy, when a Autistic child is murdered it's a "mercy killing" to save them from their future "suffering".

If you ask me, they frankly are no better than the Nazis. I'm sure if they could round us up in trains and take us all to "camps" they would. Since they can't do that though, they're doing the next best thing..psychological warfare.

All we really can do is continue to fight them. Then they can't pretend we're all burdens to people. Assume that we're all without verbal skills, so that like pets they can decide for us our destiny since we have no voice. We do have a voice, and they are going to hear it! Not everyone is a sheep, and certianly there are NTs out there who clearly see the obvious immorality of Autism Speaks and C.A.N. The problem is reaching the parents so desperate for an easy, and little involved answer, that they will listen to anyone willing to make up a solution.
Thanks Conrad! :happyjump:
Conrad - do you have any idea on how to get as wide exposure as autism speaks?

You would need a significant amount of gunpowder, but besides that part it's not that hard.

Does anybody know that a lot of Kellog's cereals have really high sodium and sugar levels? I don't understand why they have to put so much salt in their cereals, especially rice bubbles and corn flakes. They are too scungy to put little toys in their packets these days, too.

On a more serious note though, I found out about the sodium and sugar levels when reading a Choice magazine. I wouldn't say Kellogs have the healthiest cereals around but they seem to be just about the best known cereal company in Australia at least.

It is disappointing to see that they support a pro-cure group.

Yep - they're no better than the Klan and "Reverend" Jim Jones put together! The name "Autism Speaks" is a complete utter JOKE! The very anti-family values AND anti-autistics track record of the NTs who run these particular cure-and-control pressure-groups speaks for itself.
