Bullies!

TV advertisements with annoyingly high flicker rates, even when I put the TV on mute and overt my gaze, I can still see the flashing reflected off the furniture.

Human eyes are naturally drawn to movement, advertisers use this by having almost constant motion or flickering during there time slot.

If they actually told people about the merits of their products without all these psychological warfare techniques I would not mind so much.

Its all about brand awareness, buying a H**^er instead of a vacuum cleaner or using your *p*d instead of a portable music player.

And also people wearing advertisements across thier chest for clothes companies and actually paying more to do so.

I am close to giving up altogether on commercial TV and radio, at least with the Internet there is adblock.
Amy, you will loathe me (if you already don't) then, as I am a pipe and havana cigar smoker, and enjoy more than the occasional "frowned on" smoked green plant matter

My pet hate? charver vermin, pop/rap "music", cheap cigars such as Hamlet, and the odious creatures that crap in a public loo, and leave it there for some other poor schmuck to have to flush, oh, and shitheads that insist on using the phrase "arse burger", when that happens, all hell lets loose.

My worst pet hate though, probably euro speed, filthy stuff, just...ewwwww.
Smoke? you do not TASTE smoke with a good cigar, with a good cigar, you have flavour, chewiness, and AT LEAST half an hour of one's time gone up in flames.

Sunny deshite, more like.

Well, you did invite me to rip it to shreds, so rightfully,  I had to, and it IS revolting.
Man, you gotta get used to the fine aroma of nitrosamines.....

You must never have smoked a GOOD cuban, such a variety of flavours, depending on the one you choose.

Plus, for those with their minds in a gutter somewhere, I  just BET the empty tube, could double as an excellent plaything with a pretty woman

Yeah whats your guy's pet peeves? You wanna know what really bothers me? Morons, I can't stand the morons! And they're everywhere. Everywhere you turn there's one right behind you. My house is infested with morons, Mom (OMG probably the biggest one) Dad (the 2nd biggest one), Annemarie (the next) and then Terri, but me and Michelle are real humans.  Yea us!

:boom:  morons make me want to explode!

Basically my issue.
Idiots I call them.

Tough they make up 75% of the population by my most conservative estimate, I only know them by name or face (or forum handle), and avoid them like the plague whenever possible.

These are the people who:

1. Are incapable of holding a rational argument.
2. Demonstrate a clear inability to understand basic facts or concepts, such as evolution
3. Make logical leaps which are completely illogical in forums where I can not respond.  (3/4 op ed columnists are guilty of doing this on a regular basis)
4. Happily use logical fallacies and nonsequiturs whenever possible and seem utterly unaware that they're doing it (I confess to doing that too sometimes, but I generally make them obvious.  If they don't get it, they're idiots and they wouldn't get the real explanation anywhen)
5. Cite a myth and then when I debunk it and state the source, tell me to "prove" it in a situation where I very clearly cannot access said source.
6. Formulate opinions on something that they have no knowledge of through analogy.
7. Try to guilt me ("If you oppose the draft you're a selfish immature brat")
8. Project their exact experiences on you ("I enjoyed the draft so all young people should be drafted").
9. Try to force me into conformity (See my obsessive antipathy towards the draft).
10. Try to make me not do something I do for no logical reason (elbows on the table, playing with hair)
11. Make me do something I don't want to do (I REALLY F--KING HATE this more than just about anything).
12. Play logic games and consider them valid (public use = public purpose = public benefit).
13. Assume my inferiority when they're idiots (sometimes my intellectual superiors do this too, and I hate it, but at least they're justified).
14. Argue based on assumptions of inveterate beliefs that they expect me to hold ("that's undemocratic" I see democratic elections as a highly inadequate means to an end, not an end in itself).
15. Counter all my carefully worked arguments with "Well, that's just your opinion or "We'll have to agree to disagree then"
16. Invoke "convention" or the "authorities" or "most people" especially when those things do agree with them.
17. Play any sort of mind game with me, then, end the debate on a note of magnimity while I'm still trying to put my mind back together.

And other such things, I could go on. . .

To clarify, my issue here is when I have an argument based primarily on hard evidence (such as evolution, global warming, or what certain historical documents litterally say).

After constructing an argument which refutes theirs (and they've usually started it), these people will, rather concede that I have the upper hand (I will often simply plead "no contest"), or ask to gather more evidence, will simply say "Well, let's just agree to disagree," as if it is a matter of pure opinion or varying criterion in which all stances are equally valid, such as favorite color or best flag.

Alternatively they may have a position which is so illogical that I cannot comprehend it.  I'll keep asking about logical holes, and they'll repeat the same non-answers.  At some point, again, they ask to AtoD rather than come up with valid answers to my questions.

I don't deny that I can be a major fool at times, but I do try to avoid being the sort of incurable that comprises most of the world's population.

Just in general, I started musing and ifgured I'll write it down.  May leave a few in utmost contempt of me, but I don't care.

Better to be despised for my beliefs then hold silent, and since we've gotten this far, I may as well mention this as well.

I'm an insufferable elitist, misanthrope, and cynic, and ought to make that completely clear.

So I like to try to classify people: here's how I classify people I argue with: idiot, misanthrope, foe, anthrophile.

I find that I have four sorts of people when arguing with:

Idiots who can't grasp basic concepts, such as "nothing is absolute" or "you're entitled to your own set of opinions but not your own set of facts" or "that is a fallacy, try to reword your argument" etc.
These people formed their opinions through sound-bytes and various bits of pre-fed dogma, and cannot thing for themselves.

People with a similar IQ to mine (probably one standard deviation down in general), who agree on the basic principles of an discussion (I include debates and arguments as well.  With these people though, it rarely becomes and argument).  These people generally formed their opinions on their own, and while they may be fools, and hate having it pointed out, try to correct it when it is pointed out rationally.  Sometimes they haven't reached the point where they can do this.
I couldn't do this for years, and am still not sure that I'm fully capable, though I make an effort.
Anybody who's either open-minded by nature, or who genuinely tries to be, while not excessively "we're all equal, all ideas are valid," falls here.

People with a similar IQ to mine but who are completely closed minded and consider anybody who disagrees with them on [i]anything[/i[ to be a lower life form.
I'm nto talking about people who say it, I'm talking about people, who really sincerely, mean it.
These people may try to avoid saying it outright to those that they consider idiots, but if I point out a flaw in their argument it means a flaw in me.
Basically, anybody who considers me an idiot when I disagree (though sometimes I'm forced to conceed that I have been to the second group) falls here.

The last distinction may be arbitrary.

There's a fourth group of high IQ optomistic people lovers, who I can't usually bring myself to argue with because their naive faith in people is guilt-riddening and sickenening.

I may therefore my arbitrarily dividing people along a misanthropy/cynicism scale based on where I am, as well as intelligence.

With the fourth group though, they seem to often be higher IQed than me, so maybe not.  These people also seem to be divided, those who show contempt for me for having comtempt, and those who do not.

I've noticed that time it takes to get dissillusioned with the world relates to self-percieved ability to change it.

Don't think Einstein became cynical until they dropped the bomb, for instance.

So yes, I'm a complete elitist and cynic.

I still say I'm justified.

And no amount of the "only idiots call people idiots" or "have tolerance for fools is going to get me."

I'd rather be proven painfully wrong occassionally than suffer through all the "all beliefs are equally valid stuff."

When it comes to factual evidence, they're not, and if I can pick apart their logical reasoning, they're not.

Back in elementary school, I used to flush the toilets that had been used if someone hadn't done it before; got in trouble for it many times, so I had to stop.

I despise pills.

I hate that people think "***" is the greatest epithet there ever was.  Same with "gay."  Same with "wierd."  People who tell me I need xanax or risperdall, or the evil of evils itself, ritalin.  I didn't say no to eight years of that crap to listen to some quasi-illiterate jerk who thinks he's been through medical school.

It also pisses me off that prescription drugs are more acceptable than marijuana.

The idea that Uncle sam is the equivalent of God the Father Almighty I find similarly distasteful.

And you can add about ninety percent of thepeople who live in my state as well.

Washer & dryer "hogs."    When you share a laundry room with others in your building, MOVE YOUR STUFF out of the washer & dryer when it's done!

Hide the laundry a couple times and deny all knowledge and responsibility (if you're capable of lying.  If not, just ask questions like "Somebody took your laundry?"  "Why do you think they'd do that?" which is what I do when confronted with a situation where I would need to lie, but can't do).  Put it down in a basket next to the drier, and tell them that's where you put it when they ask.

They probably won't get the message, but they'll have no no recourse except to start moving it I'd posit.

Let's keep this one short then, shall we?

Pet peeves are always subjective. You shouldn't have to defend them.

1: People that continue to argue their point long after abandoning reason.

2: Setting messy things on clean counters.

Prejudice against people with disabilities.
