Ok, so here is my plan, details sketchy at the moment which is why I am thinking about it so early, may seam to alot of you too early but I want to plan a large APD event, with luck the biggest anywhere so far, so I would like information on who would be interested, I will probably try to put coaches on from several major cities in the UK to reduce travel cost if there is enough interest to run them.
So I would like to know 3 things:
1. Would you be interested? (Please answer poll at the top)
2. Anyone have an idea for a venue, preferably capable of handling a few hundred people. (Yes I am really dreaming of a big event for this)
3. Any other comments anyone has on this which would be helpful.
It will be on a monday next year.
What we will suggest to people is that they have an event on saturday, sunday or monday, whatever suits them the best.
One advantage of a monday is that more places are quieter, people could book a day off work, or college, kids could have a day off (special event after all and kids love having a day off  ).
So I guess depending where people wanted to go would depend in which day.
Personally I love chester zoo, but it is busy on saturdays and sundays. It is not cheap either. Other than that booking a restaurant, and going for a walk sounds nice.
Some places are cheeper on weekdays, and those that don't advertise it can sometimes be more willing to negotiate on the prices of large group bookings even more during the week than at the weekend due to the fact that many places get less business on a weekday.
I am taking sugestions on board although it is important to try and generate interest before trying to make too many plans and risk it all blowing up in our faces, Zoo's could be a good idea though as that does allow for a quite sizable group assuming people are interested, another type of place is possibly themeparks, especially one of the ones that have a good few acres of parkland etc around, both are expensive but great for large groups, quiter in the week as well and tend to have good group discounts, maybe moreso on quieter days like Monday.
Resteraunt and walk sounds good as well, the other thing we have to note when picking venues is we might be able to get away with something a little more expensive than normal given the fact we should be able to get interest together and try and plan this well in advance giving people plenty of time to get some money together for the event.
Hmm sounds nice. I dont think too many people would like a theme park because of the busyiness. Although Flamingo Land is quite good as that has a zoo with it and you can walk round if you don''t like rides.
I agree about the theme park, I would find it quite daunting, especially with young children.

I must admit from personal expereince I have gone to themeparks 3 times on a weekday when school terms are in effect (IE not holidays) and my group has been practically the only ones there, maybe a few dozen others about but if you have ever seen one you know a few dozen in a themepark is hardly any nothing you would really notice anyway, or was there some other reason you felt that would be a daunting prospect?
Some people will love theme parks while others won't be able to stand them. For that reason I would suggest that perhaps something else is more appropiate.
Having thought about this again though, having the infinity sign in bright spectrum colours hanging down from the entrance to Alton Towers would be amazing.
We can dream
i only voted no cos i won't likely be in the UK next year, although i'd like to go there sometime.
... and i wanted to see the rest of the votes; that's great that you had a lot of YES votes so far.
I wonder if you could get some ideas about how you wanted this thing to work by looking at an event such as this:
http://ani.autistics.org/autreat.html
... and comparing what you wanted to do similar vs. different to that.
Just an idea....
I've never been or anything, but it sounded kind of cool.
The point is APD is supposed to be a day for us to celebrate our diversity and such, not a protest day, maybe if you wanted to organise a march you could pick another day?
I think a parade would be nice, but very hard to do.
It's not the day for a protest though.
A parade is not the same as a march, do you agree?
Or is it just a disagreement about the word itself?
APD can get media attention without being a protest.
Ever heard of xmas day? It gets media attention and is not a protest.
There is no argument, do a parade if you want.
MttJocy is not organizing a parade, hes making a group event to do an activity.
