I was reading the article in the AFF Wiki, about what cartoon characters are suspected to have Asperger's Syndrome. Seeing as I've spent alot of my time watching cartoons, I find the concept very interesting.
I always suspected Lisa has Asperger's, or at least was a feminist type. I like how she goes and advocates for different causes. I wish I could do more of that, but going to protests really isn't as safe as they make it look on The Simpsons.
Here are a couple of cartoon characters who haven't been listed that might be on the spectrum:
Norbert from Angry Beavers. I think he's kind of Aspie, or he might just look incredibly intelligent in contrast to his brother Dagget. I like Dagget more because he's the comic relief, but Norbert is like the straight man.
I think in one epsiode Norbert collected novelty cups for a Star Wars parody. In another episode Norbert bought a grand piano with a hairdryer, it was supposed to "Dry your hair in a minuet".
Patrick from Spongebob Squarepants
Well, yes he does seem to be a loveable oaf type character, which typically is a stereotype character of Auties/Aspies. Like, in the Looney Tune cartoons where they'd have a character, act like the mentally challanged guy from Of Mice and Men.
I think Patrick may be Aspie/or Autie. There was an episode called I'm With Stupid, where Spongebob pretended to be stupider than Patrick to help Patrick's parents see how smart Patrick was.
This episode involved alot of crazy parodies of Auties, I don't know if you could call them negative. It's kind of in the perspective of laughing at ones-self vs being bully-like. Like Spongebob wore his Karate helmet when he went to Patrick's house. There were parts where Spongebob misinterpreted language, like mistaking the word house for blouse.
In the end the episode showed that Patrick was so happy to have someone beneath him intellectually, that he started abusing Spongebob in the way he was abused. Like calling Spongebob a dummy, and acting as if Spongebob couldn't learn anything by himself. I think there were times for alot of us where we got frusterated with people assuming, that because we're Aspie we must know nothing, or be considered basically low-functioning Autistic. I think that's what they were expressing with Patrick.
So it ends up that Patrick's parents couldn't find him, and that the parents who were with him weren't his parents. Which all in all seems to portray the perspective that in general Starfish are kind of Autie/Aspie acting. I'm not sure if they're kind of saying Starfish are representative of lower-functioning people on the spectrum, or that they might be really smart but socially fall apart, so that when people talk to them they seem less intelligent because they're awkward socially.
