I liked the suggestion for 2006 "There is no cure for being yourself"
I think if it were a slogan for Autistic Pride Day people could figure it out.
"They say we need to be cured-  I say we are the cure!"

Lol.
Ooohh, how about that one from that T-shirt design by Indigowombat- there's a thread on it here somewhere....

Anyway, the phrase is "Every brain is beautiful".
What about something about individuality and us just simply being diferent than NT's like:  "Live Life Like Yourselves" or even "Living Our Lives As OUR Lives."
autistics speak.  take the time to listen.

Not sure if some people (as many would see it who did not know anything about all the autism issues) might be confused as some autistics are non-verbal.

I have a small concern about this.  If people look quickly, it could be easily confused with Autism Speaks if people are not paying much attention.

1) United on the Spectrum.
2) Celebrate Autistic Culture.
How about "Autism--you don't speak for us."  Still hinting at Autism Speaks, but very explicit, and would not be confused.

There is also a phrase that jumped out at me from the explanations for the infinity sign--"Spectrum Forever."  I forget who said it, but it would be very fitting against a backdrop of the rainbow infinity sign.

The issue there, of course, would be redundancy.  We've already had "acceptance not cure" and "spectrum forever" is basically the same idea just with more romantic connotations.

Still, I would love to see it on a banner.

I'm also thinking of something along the lines of "Common achievements, uncommon persective."  In other words, we share achievements, but we're exceptional.
I think it's "oddizm\removethispart\@gmail.com", according to this website(obviously, you should remove the segment that says "\removethispart\"

"I say we are the cure" sounds like another master race fantasy.

"Everybrain is beautiful" I like a lot.  [/img]
what i'm saying when i had autistics speak was that curebies love to silence us and illegit us as mute, and monsters unable to communcate in any way.  nt's can communicate by essays and the such, but when we try to communcate by that, we aren't actually communcating.  if we don't talk, we're not communcating according to curebies.  just another double standrad.

here's another one: autism: diffrent, not diseased.

or this one: not a nightmare, but we do dream.

Quote:
autism: diffrent, not diseased.

I must say that I really, really like that one. Smile

I don't like the 'Autism: It's not like you think' one, because it makes me feel like it's saying, 'people with autism don't think'.  Which probably isn't what it's meant to say, but....
I think I like "A million ways to be" most. But "There is no cure for being yourself" and "Autistics speak - take the time to listen" are really good too and "They say we need to be cured- I say we are the cure!" I like too, but maybe a bit hostile for APD...?

n talking about slogans.....

The dutch autism fund (autismefonds) used the slogan "Autism. Their world is different than you think." for their last campaign. When I heard it on the radio (except for the nasty mis-tune they used) I heard it wrongly and thought it was ok. When I read it online I started protesting internally though... what do they mean THEIR world? it's still the same world!!! so I like to mention my protest slogan to this:

"Autistics know. The world is different than you think!"

The NVA dutch autism org (affiliated with the fund) has the slogan: "Autism. Living in a world you do not understand" which is hm hm... well... hm hm.. again, not really accurate or nice. Since I understand some things others don't understand and they understand some things I don't understand (and who doesn't?) so it should have then at least referred to something more specific and not the entire "world"!!

I would say it feels more like this:
"Autism. Living in a world where no one takes the time to understand you."

Cool
