"Autistic Pride Day - proud of our culture and community"

I like this one because many people still do not know that we have a culture and community.  This will help to make them more aware.

Yeah and i think it needs to have the word autistic in it, so that people know which culture/community.

so ignore my comment about it being kinda long, because it makes more sense long...

I always liked the phrase from an old Cat Stevens song: "there's a million ways to be, you know that there are"

(talk about long   )

Maybe shorten to "a million ways to be"

I donno if it's clear, but it has a nice ring to it.
Although maybe it was more fitting for this year's Neurodiversity.
I like that phrase that someone on cafepress has (probably oddizms),
"Autism: it's not like you think"

Amy Wrote:
Again, is there any way to check if that is copyrighted before we put it on the poll, just in case.

I could never find an email for oddizms to ask her(?) questions.

I will try to find out about the Cat Stevens line.

I asked a librarian friend and she found out that if the quote is not intrinsic to the song, it's OK to use it.

If I had quoted it correctly, it would be intrinsic to the song.  However, I seem to have misquoted, which would be a good thing (?!).

"a million ways to be"

vs:

My Two favorites so far are:

"a million ways to be"

and

"Autistic Pride Day - proud of our culture and community"

The first would be better for a placard and the second would be good for a banner.

I might make a placard or banner nearer the next APD, depending on what gets planned.
can anyone find oddizm's email on her site, or knows who she is to email her?  I can't find it.  (This is to ask for the copyright info on the phrase "Autism: it's not like you think"

thanks,

What about a variation 'Autism, it's not what you think'.

I think ( ) that would still keep the double meaning, implying that we don't think what they think + it isn't what they think it is.

I don't like the 'Autism: It's not like you think' one, because it makes me feel like it's saying, 'people with autism don't think'.  Which probably isn't what it's meant to say, but....

It's meant to say (1) we think differently from NTs and (2) Autism isn't like NTs think it is.

... at least I think so.

OK, let's see.
Oddizm didn't release her phrase "Autism: it's not like you think" for use with APD, but she kindly gave a bunch of other ideas, which I will submit here on her behalf:

Quote:
Maybe something like "Different is good." would work.  I came up with "Autism: it's not like you think" after seeing "Think Different" which is an Apple computer slogan, I think...  I have read that very short slogans like 2 or 3 words are not copyrightable... if that's true, "Think Different" might be available for use ...
"no ordinary disorder" might be fun...
"Still waters run deep" :-)
"All together now."
"Spectral beauty"
"the other side of normal".

You can play with any of those if you like them or use them as is.

Oh, I have to add that I think "different is good" might be copyrighted by Arby's sandwich restaurant in USA ("Arby's is different. Different is good.")... except for what she said about 3-word slogans not being copyrightable, in which case ignore what I said.

As we have had no new ideas for a week or so, I will make a poll with the list and people can vote over the next 6 weeks to give everyone a chance.

Pls. remember to remove the Oddizm's one from the list for voting (Autism, it's not like you think) becos she has that one ©opyrighted.

or, "seeing a side of reality that you may never understand".

A little wordy, but hey, that's our birthright.
"Autistic and proud of it"? (as long as this one hasn't been used before)
I'd like to suggest:

"Not so equal, not so different - we're just us."
