And it would do much more good for society. I just can't believe this kind of thing would exist. I don't think we have anything like it in Australia. I was told this Rotten centre had punishments even for sneezing and stuff like that.
Surely, if they wanted to change behaviour, they should have only looked at violent behaviour. I don't think giving electric shocks would teach the children anything anyway, except for hatred.
My GOD thanks awfull. Do you think a pickett of the centre would help? My GOD I feel so angry about that place! And I feel so angry that the families just stand back and let it happen! Isn't this against International Law? Shouldn't the UN get involved here?
Just found this article, albeit a month old, via my favorite weird news site...
http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/...shock.html
Also if any of the
adults here want the address to the weird news site, PM me. You can comment
there for a week before the thread gets archived. (No, Mother Jones is not the weird news site. I just found the link there and now copy that same link here.)
I read the whole thing, including public responses. Even being a very fast reader it has taken me hours and I feel sick.
I have trouble working out how something like this can really exist. It's twisted. Poor people. Locked up for life with an electric shock machine on your back....Just for being Autistic.
What the hell can we do? Now? RIGHT NOW while I still cannot see for tears and am having a hard job not throwing up. The abuse of that poor lad by the police was awful - and this is worse by a factor of several million.
I agree action must be taken. I know people above have said that direct action may not be sensible, but there are forms of action that are legal and sometimes affective.
Firstly I thought about setting up a p[rotest march, but that might be a little distanced here in the UK, and I am unable to pay for a plane ticket to America.
This idea got me thinking that I should petition downing street to call an emergancie meeting with the UN to discuss trade embargos on America until the situation improves and people have been tried for these crmes, but I did not feel it would be taken seriously.
Then it hit me, I am going to speak to someone who knows what there talking about and can help me to come up with a plan of action. I am going to sign up to Liberty here in the UK, as I have been told that they fight for human rights accross the globe.
I did notice that the report was made over twelve months ago. Can anybody point me to some information regarding what may have changed sionce this report was published. Also can anybody tell me if any of these abusive treatments are used here in the UK?
Just read the Mother Jones article, in addition to the barbaric torture that this man perpetrates against his "students," how can he call his hell hole a SCHOOL? I am a teacher, (and parent of a little Aspie) and I don't see how this place can charge so much money per student, ostensibly to EDUCATE them, when the classroom set up is students isolated at computer screens, with their backs to the teacher!!! Is there ANY TEACHING? NO, just the daily torture of people who came there to be helped! It makes me want to bulldoze the place.
Of course, I think I'd let the students have at Dr. Israel with the GED-4 for a few hours first. Probably not appropriate to say that, but it just seems fair to me. Is there an emoticon for an unapologetic grin?
WHAT THE HECK????????????? Electroshock therapy to treat post-traumatic stress disorder??? Oh, yeah, being zapped with electricity and denied food is REALLY gonna help people be less traumatized. Oh, my gosh. This is just sick. Sick. Sick. Sick. Sick. Geez. Watch someone develop PTSD just from being around that "health care facility".
See, I don't get this. How could anyone be so completely thoughtless as to intentionally damage a person like this and call it therapy? Do they really see people with mental "disorders" as so inhuman that their suffering doesn't matter? Why is this considered acceptable? Why is this even LEGAL?
People should learn discipline, but dishing out punishments over every little thing that doesn't conform to an authority figure's ideals of normal is not discipline. It's intolerance, and it's cruel. Most of these people have been through a lot, what they really need is someone to accept, reach out to, and care about them. How can anyone possibly believe that endless torture can lead to a better life?
I know, I'm just restating what everyone believes, but I feel as though I had to say this.
Do we have to tell JRC that we have something to tell them?
THIS.IS.SPECTRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUM!
*kicks the staff into holes*
WOAH.... ok thats just bizzare .... Amy I'd never heard of such a thing! Why hasn't this hit the media?!? It should.... O_o
And I cannot believe some parents would be willing to subject their child to electric shock! its just .... damn I don't have any words... reading those pages left a bile taste in my mouth...

There is real evil in the world. Much of this was enhanced by the import of Nazi psychologists in to our country after World War II. "Operation Paper Clip" However, it certainly existed before.
Electro-shock? I once thought it extinct. It is amazing hor barbarism has been resurrected in the last few years.
All the best.
My gosh... why don't we DO something about this!!?
I remember we had Pull the Plug day but who the heck actually wore a plug??
And I know that I am no less guilty than anyone else in not doing anything.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0629222/
IMDB says the original airdate of that episode was 1995. It would be horrible if the L&O creators (or NBC for that matter) knew places like the JRC existed but never did anything about them. Instead they decided to make them an episode plot basis to acheive thier selfish goal of increasing TV ratings.
...wait, killed? They're not using dangerous electric shocks, are they? It's just supposed to be uncomfortable, there shouldn't be any risk at all of serious harm...
Also, please refrain from belittling historical tragedies by comparing them to traumatized little autistic kids. The Spanish Inquisition killed an awful lot of people. Thus far all JRC has done is zap the stimming behavior out of some autistic kids, which is bad but does not merit comparison.
Agreed regarding the Spanish inquisition.
As to the other, there have been a few deaths at the JRC over the past few years due to various "treatments". Can't remember the numbers or the details, but when I've got a bit more time on my hands I'll look it up - unless other know off the tops of their heads...
I didn't intend any of that reprimand to be for you, though (it was micgrace who posted "it makes the Spanish Inquisition look like a charity") I was just expressing my shock and horror at the idea that the JRC caused deaths. If they have then they're much, much worse than I had thought...
I've just had a quick google search, and found references to two wrongful death claims against the JRC (http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/...index.html), as well as rape allegations(http://www.cchreus.org/blog/default.asp?...chive.html).
It looked like there were more, but unfortunately work blocks access to blog sites, so I can't go in to see the links.
