I sure hope people don't eat ferret.

:!: Mich :?:
Who's saying you can't eat rabbit? I had rabbit--didn't much care for it, but...

And I think people don't eat squirrel because there's not much meat on them.
My chiropractor is a hunter/fisherman in his spare time. He went duck hunting three weeks ago (when it was duck and goose season) and he gave me some duck and goose meat. While I didn't like the taste as much as beef, it was fine. And I knew that it didn't contain any junk, like all those antibiotics domestic animals are getting. So, it was a good, healthy meal.

Mind you, I might not eat snakes, simply because I would remember what they look like, and that would gross me out. I can't eat things like crabs, because they look like slugs.

Uschi, the downside of eating wild meat like that is that their diet is uncontrolled, which is not necessarily a good thing.  In some cases, a farm-raised critter will probably be better for you in the long run.  The most obvious example is salmon.  Wild salmon have a *lot* more mercury in them than farm-raised salmon.
Monk, farm raised animals will most often be forced to eat things that aren't what they are meant to eat. For instance, cows are fed grain, to fatten them up faster, but they are designed to eat grass. I don't know what ducks are fed on farms, but I can be pretty sure it isn't what ducks should be eating. I think it is a good thing we can't control what wild animals eat, because they'll eat what their natural diet is. Which means they are healthier.

I'm a vegan, but I don't care what y'all eat as long as you ain't eating MY pets. It's all good.  8)
Well that depends, what kind of pets do you have?  Most animals kept as pets in western countries tend to need lots of ketchup to deal with the otherwise unpleasant flavor.
moose and deer has very good meet.
i think that hunting animals is faar berter than keeping them in in captivety (ushaly in very bad contitions) there entire life.

Well eating yourself would be problematical!

But if you were dying of hunger, and it was a choice of dying, or killing and eating something, would you just lie down and die?

My usual response to my adversaries in such debates is that; if necessary, I'd kill and eat you, but in your case alfonzo, given the number of pills you've been popping, I'd probably pick a healthier prospect!

Ok, i edited it, thank you for pointing out my mistake, Gwynfryn. And there isn't much flesh to me anyway, so i guess you could find better foodsources.  Big Grin

LIKE ME!

/jams to some new/old echoing green...

What i actually wanted to say is that i'm a vegetarian, but i ceased to believe this could ever be a "model for society". There will always be people who just like to eat meat (my dad for instance thinks of steak every time he sees a cow), but that doesn't mean i have to be one of them. I love animals, so why would i eat them?

By the way, if given the choice eat a cow or die, i would eat the cow of course. I'm not that fanatic

Getting back to being serious, there are nutrients we need which are not available from vegetables (vit B12 is one, I think) so veggies must try to be aware of such issues, and look to supplements. It's not a simple case of chosing what we wish to eat!

That's true, Gwynfryn. I do take supplements and i eat lots of "replacing" food (vegetarian burgers). I eat a lot of nuts too, cause someone told me that was very usefull as a vegetarian.

During my last term in 9th grade they did not want me at school anymore so I went and lived with a family that worked with fishing and sheep farming. One day when we had been out fishing for several hours we went a shore to sit on a pier to have sandwishes and  coffea. The fishermans wife had made the sandwishes and I got to try one with elk meat called "the salty piece" and because I seriously did not know what part of the elk this salty meat came from I asked him. He thought this was a funny question.

In retrospect I see that "the salty piece" could have been located near the elks bladder since urine contains a lot of salts. That might have been the reason to his thinking it was a rather funny question.

A chore I had on the farm was to feed the sheep in the morning and in the evening.
