Clara Lajonchere, director of the Autism Genetic Resource Exchange gene and data bank, will talk about the organization's work to identify the genetic underpinnings of autism and autism spectrum disorders.

One in 166 kids has autism or an autism spectrum disorder such as asperger's syndrome, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The disorders are developmental disabilities caused by unusual brain development. They are characterized by varying degrees of impaired communication and social skills, and repetitive behavior.

Lisa Glow, president of the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center in Phoenix, will share information about the center's vocational and life-skills training programs.
