The family of a 15-year-old autistic high school student who died in 2003 after being restrained at school has agreed to settle a lawsuit brought against school officials.

Documents filed in federal court say 1.3 million dollars will be distributed to family members of Michael Renner-Lewis III and pay costs. The family had sought 25 million dollars. The settlement was reached last month.

The lawsuit accused the school district, the Kalamazoo Regional Educational Service Agency, and their employees of assault and battery, false arrest and imprisonment, gross negligence and violation of constitutional rights.
