ok my son is 9 years old and has had speech therapy since he was 2. But now they have decided he doesnt need it or well that they cant do anything more for him. I dont understand how they can stop his speech therapy. So anyways we are starting to fight for his speech therapy I think its a bit much when iff you have a gifted kid they get everything they need but iff you have a child with any kind of special needs you have to constantly fight for what they "NEED".

Anyways my son is always loud so we did ask for a referal for an hearing test via our health visitor. He had his hearing test yesterday and they said that his hearing is a bit down, they also said they could treat it but they wont (apparantly it could make him a bit more deaf or something). So it feels like we're getting fobbed off by everyone at the moment. But anyways they wanna see him again in the winter time the Dr did say though that theirs no sign of glue ear so i guess its not all bad news.

Anyways thats my rant over with
What areas do you think his speech needs improving in?
My son had speech and language therapy from age 3-12, then they stopped it as it was felt he didn't need it anymore.
I did agree with that, though he needs more now as his skills have lessened again.

If you can state specific areas that still need work, by comparing him with an average peer, then you could make a case for it.
You could even try and get an independent assessment from a speech therapist.
Well basically the speech therapist hadnt seen him for hmm 12 months anyways. Then next thing we know we got the letter saying they were discharging him but his speech has slipped back a lot in the last 12 months and also it seems that they discharged a few others aswell that are the same age as him. So i think that they just cant be "bothered" with him now. But anyways he defo needs help with understanding and useing language still. I just really dont know why they discharged him for but oh well.

We do have some proffesionals helping us in fact at his last review for his statement it stated on there that he still needs speech therapy.

thanks for the tip about an independant speech therapist aswell Amy. I'll look into that.
I wouldn't think that it was because they could not be bothered. More likely that when they last saw him he was doing well, but then in the interim lost some of his skills.
Yea your probly right on that but to me it looked like they couldnt bothered. i mean they did discharge some others aswell. So it looked like to me that when they got to the age of 9 thats it no more speech therapy anyways wether they needed it or not. However i do know that there is problems getting speech therapists where I live but oh well. Its probly the same all over the uk anyways.
