This is a project that encompasses various ideas on the theme of a holiday resort/homeland for autistics.

The most basic idea is to have a small hotel or guest house that people on the spectrum can holiday in, that would be run by people who were also on the spectrum.
The most elaborate is too build a man-made island, or purchase a man-made island for people to live and holiday on.

There could ultimately be numerous concurrent projects, in different areas, run by different people.

It all depends what people want to do, and along the way I think it is an inspiring idea that can give some of us hope.
Why does it have to be a man-made island? It seems to me it would be a lot cheaper and simpler to get a natural one.
How much would it cost to stay there?

Will we have to put up with c*** from curbies and governments?

If I walk around nervously, or jitery I won't be suspected as evil or teroristic?  What a novel idea.

okay, but seriously how can we acrualy pull this off, legaly, financialy, and safely?

Would we set up a government, and create an individual nation?

Would we be able to agre on poignint issues?

Is ti posible to create a nation, without any form of import adn export?

Would we be taken seriously by NTs?

If we want to have nation status, will any other nations, actualy be willing to recognize us as a valid nation?

could the econmoy be stable enough to do whta needs to be done?

If only authistics and (suporting) families are wanted,  how do we go about only allowing these people in?  Dose there have to be proof of diagnosis (even then people could forge this if they wanted to)

I'm not saying it is a bad idea, but I thinky we may run into many issures.
We would not be aiming for nation status - to be blunt the only way to do this in today's world is extreme use of force.

As for buying a natural island I agree this would be cheaper, both in time and money - though it is still worth investigating.

How much it would cost to stay there would depend entirely on the initial expenses and running expenses. This is near impossible to predict at this stage of the project, though it is most likely prices would be higher at first and gradually drop after the break even point when profit starts coming in (all profits by the way would go straight back into the trust and not into anyone's pockets).
Man-made islands can be formed for $3 million.
Islands can be purchased from $500,000.

This is not a quick project, there are a lot of considerations, but it is certainly achievable.

Cure Autism Now have raised many millions for a bad cause, in a short time.

If people formed a holiday homes project, or an island, there would at least be something to show for it, and it would make many people happy.
Cure Autism Now has social and organizational skills.

We have great skills as a group too. I was pointing out that a negative cause can get donations, a positive cause should be able to.

Amy can you post that URL of that island you guys were/are considering?
Thanks.

Ah, but here's the thing.  It is easy to get the population drummed up to eradicate innately sinful people.  It is harder to get them aroused to make these innate sinners comfortable.  Difference is a sin, after all.

Leisure Land????

anyone heard of it?

Could visit there and see what to copy what to change.... ????

I'm gonna start going back to my autism groups to try and spread the word as far as possible, and online. You all should do likewise, the more minds behind the movement the better.

Perhaps instead of building an island to run away to, a corporation of aspies could be developed. If such a venture would prove financially viable, the world would have to deal with aspies for once, and not the other way around as it has been. But perhaps I'm too callous.

Makes sense to me.

I live at LeisureLand, an autistic intentional community with 7 members ages 12-54. I am willing to talk about any aspects of our community or how we do things here in hope to help other people take control of their living situations. Today a household or farm, tomorrow a suburb, next, a legislative district, which could be an island. Smile

I was thinking that could be a model for AutFinity...
Of course some ppl would not be able to live "off the grid" or "under the radar" or however you call it, because they need to be near medical treatment or technological things or something.
But each intentional community could be different, like you say...

villagemaker is this just a spam? There is nothing at all on the site to say it would be aspie friendly, its just a tourist place. Tons of nosey tourists is NOT autism friendly IMO.
