Mum says jabs caused autism May 18 2006
By Alec Doyle, Wrexham Mail

A MUM is calling for new re-search after claiming her daughter's autism could have been caused by mercury in a vaccine.

Louisa Diamond of Acton said she first suspected the link between mercury, which is used to preserve some vaccines, and seven-year-old Liesel's autism in 2001.

'I became very ill in May that year,' she said. 'I seemed to be showing similar symptoms to Liesel. I was having tantrums and would pass out after eating which baffled doctors at the Maelor.

'I almost died and lost six stone. No-one could figure out what was wrong until a hair analysis showed I had dangerous levels of mercury.

'It was traced to amalgam fillings which were removed. After that, scans showed the mercury in my system decreased. But similarities between my symptoms and Liesel's condition worried me.'

Louisa, and husband Colin, did some research and found some childhood vaccines contained a mercury-based substance called Thiomersal.

A vaccine, which all UK children received until 2004 and which contains Thiomersal is DTwP, which protects against whole-cell diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough.
How is losing six stone and passing out after eating anything like autism???
Wish I could lose six stone!  Bring on the mercury jabs!  Tests have shown I have absolutely none in my body.  (Rather like food, since I've been on this diet...grumble...all I've lost so far is my sense of humour...)

Mercury is most certainly dangerous stuff - but it does not cause autism. The symptoms do not match up.
Her kid wasn't exposed to it. The woman got it mercury from fillings. She did not always have the poisoning, it was sudden and obvious, so the fillings must have been recent. I think that she had some botched dental work, normally fillings have no risk.
Also some people in that area do their own dental work! Believe it or not, severe dentist shortage has caused that!
I've heard of people cutting off their corns with a razor blade but never trying to shoot them off! As they're caused by ill-fitting footwear, they'd only come back if the person didn't get better shoes for themselves.
Louisa,
to save me the time it would take to wade through your web site's text, could you explain exactly what the diagnosis was that you got from qualified medical doctors for your condition?
As I said before, the symptoms don't match up. Mercury poisoning != autism
We do know what causes autism, our genes.
It is genetic and not caused by mercury poisoning.

You may not be aware of the vast suffering that is being caused to autistic children by chelation therapy. A child has already died from it, and other have had to have limbs removed.

Parents wrongly believe that autism does not exist, and all autistic symptoms are just mercury poisoning.
The signs of mercury poisoning do not closely match autism.

Your daughter, Louisa, must surely not have lost a great amount of weight and collapses after eating, or surely she would be in hospital too.

Your words may seem an opinion to you, but to the many people making money out of chelation therapies it is 'proof' of their bogus theories.

Do you know there is now a blood test for autism that looks for the genetic markers for autistics?
Having read the link to your site, I very seriously doubt that you had mercury poisoning at all.
You were not tested at a hospital, they did not suspect it, the mercury in fillings is safe when dental work is carried out by a professional.

There could be numerous causes for what you had, you would have been given treatment in hospital for mercury poisoning if you had it, and you DID NOT get any such treatment according to your own site.

Your claims are dangerous, the symptoms you describe such as feeling trapped in your own world is the nonsense perception of autism, it does not feel like that.

I do not know what was wrong with you, but as you received no treatment at hospital for it, and made a recovery when what you felt was the cause, was removed, it seems that it was either a coincidence or psychological.
Your misportrayal of your story in the newspaper is very alarming.
It gave the impression that you were diagnosed with mercury poisoning by doctors. In actual fact you self diagnosed it.
Your absurd claims on amalgam fillings are downright dangerous.

Now you seek publicity for not only that, but link it with your daughter's autism? Are you trying to profit from this somehow?

This whole thing is highly dubious. The link to your site will be broken as is the rule here for sites that promote dangerous ideas towards autism.
My testing was all done at an NHS lab paid for by my GP.

If, as you claim, it was so high and showed poisoning, why were you not admitted to hospital to have treatment to remove it?

I am not really interested in the answer as it will be some convoluted explanation that you had already started to get better anyway, from your own special treatment or some such.

I hope other forum members can not mention certain names of groups that promote these ideas, or of particular people, as I am worried about the 'Jason McElwain' effect, in other words this person contacting them and becoming a 'look how sick autistics are because of mercury' model.
But you never were admitted to hospital after the fillings were removed to receive chelation.
So you claim that the severe mercury poisoning was removed from your system just from your home made remedy.

I am sure you didn't get paid by the reporter, after all this had all happened some years before.

Why should it be a story now at all?
If I went to my GP and presented evidence of a serious illness and stated I intended to treat it using nothing but supplements and over the counter medicines he would rightly send me to hospital.

You claim you were never sent to hospital and were therefore forced into using your own remedy - explain?
Yeah but what about all the people who had autism before MMR was available and there were dental fillings?
