I think treatment for those in whom severely disabling gut/immune, mood, anxiety or compulsive disorders are an integral part of their autistic presentation, deserve treatment for those and I believe that post natal testing would give families a head start on that.  But pre-natal testing that gives parents a choice to abort a child on the basis of autism related markers is a highly disturbing 'advance'.  My book, The Jumbled Jigsaw gives achievable treatments for severe disabling gut/immune and mood, anxiety and compulsive disorders underpinning some of the most disabling and challenging issues affecting the percentage of people with autism.  Without treatment and interventions those in this particular subgroup may significantly suffer from more than just the ignorance of society but from 'the condition' itself.  Hence there is no justification for aborting people with autism whilst valid treatments and workable humane approaches exist to help those people live good, full lives and reach some level of potential in their own right.

This is my official view.
I'm also open to having genetic testing to identify exactly where I am genetically in relation to their tests as their are others diagnosed on the spectrum in my family.
This would be a valid basis for me to say, that someone with the same results as me may be aborted on the basis they'd be assumed to have no potential.
This especially matters to me as my IQ tests in the '*** range' at under 70 yet, clearly, I have a good life, enjoy my life and contribute to this world and those around me.

Excellent!
I wonder, how many of us on these aspie/autie forums who are obviously quite literate, intelligent, and "human" (as opposed to "monsters in human form" :rollSmile were indeed considered mute, stupid and/or less than human as children.
Autistics CAN learn!  No one can predict the potential adult that is there in the infant.
Stop picking on Lili Marlene.  I think she posted up her response in the wrong topic heading.
I am sure Lili posted in the right place, and she is making the point that not all autistics have gastro, allergy problems etc.
In fact we could all have various conditions, the most prominent statistically are sleep disorders, and depression.

I'm not picking on her. It's something I've picked up about her from reading her posts.

This could be true.  I also read that people with Down's Syndrome have a very high rate of undiagnosed diabetes.  They also suffer much discrimination in medical treatments such as heart surgery.

A trouble maker? Does anyone else here feel that way about me? Why do you say that?

The connection between autism and GI problems is not a novel theory.  There's lots of articles written about it and a poll done on this forum seems to show that  it's true.

On the otherhand, how many certified geniuses are there in this forum who have accomplished things comparable to the geniuses on Lili's list?

Seriously if everyone thinks I'm a troublemaker, I will leave.

One person has said it, I think clearly you can see that one person is not everyone.
Well no one came to my defense. I took this to mean most people here agree with Lili's ideas.  I think her ideas are dangerous.  She is equating genius with autism.  This is no different from white supremacist groups claiming the white race has the most geniuses.  Her ideas smack of autistic supremacy as if we are the master race.
No one came to your defense, but no one supported her either.  I think most people were just trying to let it be between the two of you.

Theosph's criticisms of me are generally emotive exaggerations and misrepresentations. It's a consistent pattern. I know that some autistics who have long-standing self-control issues are like this, but I have no patience for this kind of nonsense.

No, Theosoph, it isn't me who is pointing out a link between genius and autism. It is Professor Simon Baron-Cohen, Co-director of the Autism Research Centre at Cambridge University and Professor Michael Fitzgerald, Henry Marsh Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Trinity College, Dublin and Professor Ioan James of Oxford University who are some of the academics who have written about a link between autism and genius. I'm only reporting what these academics, and others have already written.

I didn't say there wasn't any link between autism and genius. I'm saying the geniuses are a very small percentage of us and not all of us are geniuses.  I actually agree that most if not all of the world's greatest innovations and ideas came from people like us but these were created by the very few exceptional individuals.  A list such as yours Lili, just makes the rest of us not so exceptional aspies feel like crap because we know we could never live up to those people. We all can't be like Einstein or Newton.

My observations of you are not misrepresentations or emotive exagerations. Sure I consistently call you out when you try and deny the negetive aspects of austism such as GI problems and Executive Dysfunction which I recall you denied even existed.  That's because the pattern I see with you is that you deny any of the negetive aspects but completely accept the positive ones as the gospel truth.  The people you list you call "acedemics" while the ones you disagree with you call quacks or worse.

I'm sorry for causing trouble to this image of autism you've contructed in your own mind.  If saying what I believe and arguing with someone who believes otherwise is a "self-control issue", then I guess I must be out of control.  Seriously do you see me posting things which show a pattern of sef-control issuses?  I only respond to posts I feel strongly about either pro or con and I am totally against some of your beliefs but it's nothing personal.
