that's just about as bad as test tube babies making kids autistic.
and i know my parents don't drink or do drugs. this also raises a sterotype that we are defectives and only exist due to abuse and neglect, which is false. if this sterotype got out, then everyone will think all autistics are the results of parental abuse...like refrigator mothers.

Interesting considering my mother is the one person I know of never to have touched a single drug in her life which was not supplied by a qualified medical professional whom certainly does not prescribe drugs to pregnant women which are known to cause harm.
And also has a violent reaction after even one glass of wine suddenly suffers hot flushes and other unpleasant side effects so rarely even so much as looks at an alcoholic beverage.
Why use this as the cause for Autism when we all know what it is. Terrorists give children autism, drugs have nothing to do with it. So keep the alcohol problem and pick up a gun! We'll teach Iraq to give us more Issac Newton's!
Autism is not caused by a mother's prenatal drug and alcohol use. Fetal alcohol syndrome is caused by alcohol use during pregancy. Drug use during pregancy can cause other problems. These children would have special needs. This journalist needs to be straightened out with the facts.
I'm interested in how a single 59 year old woman can afford to look after eleven children - I mean, it doesn't say if she has an "outside" job or not. Not to mention WHY. I mean, I've heard of the maternal impulse, but eleven? My preschool class ranges in size, depending on what day it is, from between nine and twenty two. Even on days when we have the minimum number, I feel tired at day's end, and when it's the maximum number, you can feel emotionally and physically wrung out.
