An autistic woman was attacked at a group home in Meriden and NBC 30 is reporting that the suspect may be one of those responsible for her care.
Mercedes Garcia claims caretakers at a medical facility in Meriden abused her 25-year-old autistic daughter, Betzaida.
"I do not know the person that did this to my daughter," she said through a translator. "They will not give me that information. I don't want to cause that person any harm but I do want justice to be served and that person should be jailed and not out free."
Pictures of Betzaida show bruises. A doctor from Middlesex Hospital wrote on the medical evaluation that there was "suspected abuse."
The permanent living facility is owned by Acord and is licensed through the state Department of Mental Retardation.
The medical facility placed the staff member accused of abuse on administrative leave.
The Department of Mental Retardation said its "facilities receive a thorough review and investigation in accordance with state law and policy. Employees working at the time of any incidents are routinely placed on administrative leave pending completion of required review and investigation."
Mercedes said she would take her daughter out of the facility now but she cannot afford the proper medical attention her daughter needs. The state Department of Mental Retardation is the only department that can move the girl to another facility.
