Come on lets face it, thats a lot more than other parents do.
yes it difnitely can manifest as hyperfocus.
the term is maybe inaccurate its not so much an attention decifit, rather than a difficulty regulating attention to appropriate amts.

Ye..es, but she also sends her away to school. I guess it's pretty easy to be nice and accepting when you a) and unlimited money and b) only see your kid at weekends and holidays.

sorry i usually misss out things not sure where you got that from in the article.

still i dont know what it is... why does everyone seem so intent on being sacarstic and second guessing parents. its as if nothing they do will ever be good enough...

When Olivia was analysed for allergies, so many were identified that it looked like she would have to exist on venison and spinach; since she has no digestive problems (many autistic children do) Liz decided to forget it.

Venison?  Must be nice to have money.  (grumble grumble)

Sorry, I forgot that it's taboo to criticize parents in this society.  After all, all any parent ever wants is the best for his or her child, and they always act in a kid's best interests.  Parents never try to manipulate their kids into fulfilling their own aspirations, or live vicariously through them, or show them off like ritzy new accessories.

Hey im not saying they dont exist in huge quantities or you people havent come up against such parents. but the fact that you automatically assume she's that sort of parent is what pisses me off.  it's like if it wasn't written in the article, it must be out there somewhere...
innocent unless proven guilty. stop taking your angst out agaisnt total strangers.
good god.

Agreed. There are rather too many people on this forum who seem to think their parents are the enemy. That is simply not the case, aside from the minority of Kit Weintraubs. Really, as I argued on Amanda Baggs' blog only this morning, we need to unite with parents and win them over to our side. Without that we will never win. If parents of autistic kids in general were to come over to our side of the argument, then we'd already have already half won.
Time was when well-to-do folks would just send their autistic kids away, not for a week at a time, but for life, and no one would be the wiser.

Her mother, Liz, is sitting quietly in a chair watching. It is Friday afternoon, the happy time of the week when she brings Olivia home from school for the weekend.

Ah, this is ambiguous. I assumed it meant she was a weekly boarder somewhere, but I see now it could equally well mean simply "oh goody it's the end of the week".

BTW, if you know where to get it then venison's not expensive any more. It's also very low in fat and tastes nice!

Btw why did they use venison and spinach as an example? Is venison about the only meat ard you can't be allergic to? Sorry if this sounds extreeemly dumb...

Venison, that's meat from those odd kangaroos that run about on all four legs, right, and have a teensy weensy little tail and bony things growing out of their heads?  Just to make sure.  If we want venison in Australia we have to order it frozen from New Zealand and it takes several months and a lot of money to get hold of.

Alison

Venison's cheap here.  All you need is a husband who's a good hunter.

If its their own parents, then they are entitled to have an opinion, they were brought up by their own parents, who would have better knowledge?

Its a flawed argument when you say we need to unite with parents, we cannot decide that, they need to want to unite with us.
A few have, we are here, waiting.
And many of us have sites that are also waiting, and some of us contact parents, and email them, etc.
We can't make people unite, they have to be willing.

Cindy, it's the same here with kangaroo meat!  It's very lean and extremely tasty, particularly marinated then barbecued with onions.  ('scuse me, mouth's watering...)
Alison, who's currently on a diet.
I think you jumped on every 'negative' little thing you could find.

Just my personal opinion. Don't let it bother you.

I had kangaroo meat once, at the Belfast continental market (despite the name, there were meats from all over the place.) My uncle put it best when he said it tasted like a vegetable roll.

Oh well, OT that was.

It depends how you cook it.  Because it's so lean, it needs to be marinated first, or else lightly fried with oil (olive for choice).  Also, the male 'roo tends to taste bland because of the testosterone in its system, the does are the best tasting.  Sounds like you got a male.
Alison (Yes I did grow up on a farm out in the bush...)

would they state on the packet whether its a male or female roo?
