I was thinking about the awful book that I read recently and joked of burning. I would never do this of course because I don't believe in censorship but I was wondering what would happen if I took a book like that out at the library. I wouldn't want to destroy it but I wonder if I could leave some info for potential readers. Fur activists leave anti-fur messages in the pockets of fur coats. And Christian evangelicals sometimes leave those tracts around public places. But I wonder how ethical it is.
Interesting, I suppose its a kind of offline spam.
I have seen such things numerous times and I think they are pretty harmless.
It would be the same as leaving leaflets somewhere and hoping people would pick them up and read them, but more targeted.
Well I find the Christian tracts to be rather preachy. If you could manage to illustrate your point in a comic format though, which is basically what tracts are, that might work. A flyer is more just text with a little logo on top.
The religious tracts I often find quite amusing (
http://www.chick.com/default.asp is great). I can't see why tracts would cause any offense though if simply left in public places and it could get the point across in a nice way. The only problem I can see is that of image, in other words it might cause a lot of harm to our image if people see us as the same as religious evangelists.
However, if anyone would like to produce a few sample comic tracts then post them and let's take a look.
I should also point out that the AFF leaflets found in our library section seem to have got quite a good response.
