Drifter, he may have a mental age of seven, I am not sure why you assume he may not. It was most likely in his notes and was heard during the case.
Mental age of seven is not necessarily a reflection on his IQ, it could be "Adaptive skills...such skills include the ability to produce and understand language (communication); home-living skills; use of community resources; health, safety, leisure, self-care, and social skills; self-direction; functional academic skills (reading, writing, and arithmetic); and job-related skills."

How sad, they were abusing this boy for at least two years as well as other children.
I don't know about the mental age thing. I think that I am around the social age of 15 yrs old even though I am 41 years chronologically. So it could be that this boy is described as 7 yrs old socially and could have been fooled into thinking the abuse was a game or that he would be punished if he told anyone. Otherwise, he could be charged with a junvenille crime in some places.

Reporter's aren't really stupid, they're just doing what they have to.
Always remember this.
A journalist may or may not have integrity, but there's no difference between a reporter and a used car salesman.

I think the mental age is a kind of platue effect, advance quickly at a young age, and rapidly cap off somewhere. So, it's not unreasonable to be 40 but still have teen impulses (Which lets face it isn't a bad thing), but being 14 with a mental age of 7 would be suggestive of retardation which isn't an Aspie "thing".

Yes, 'mental' in this context could mean a number of things. It's a pretty vague term really, as there are just so many aspects of development that can come under 'mental' growth.
