Apparently, the state of New Jersey pays the bills "since federal law requires a free education for children with disabilities in an 'appropriate setting."

I go to New Jersey school, and they forced the stuff on me last year. It's rather insulting having special ed. pull you out of class to try to play connect four with you and pretend nothing's up. In fact, the school's breaking the law by not teaching me after I refused. It's really just bad because they act like you're ten years younger in the program. Plus, they have these videos with kids that talk about what autism's like, but it's actually a subtle way of theirs to say you're a friendless loser. I don't want to be pulled out of class to be insulted like that. It is, very terrible. I admit, I still retain shame for who I am, but only because they put it in me.

In his new book Send in the Idiots, British journalist Kamran Nazeer, who is also autistic, describes the need for repetitive motions or words as a search for "local coherence" in a world full of jarring randomness. He also conveys the social difficulties: "Striking up conversations with strangers," he writes, "is an autistic person's version of extreme sports." Indeed, at a recent retreat for people with ASD, attendees wore colored tags indicating their comfort level with spontaneous conversation: red meant don't approach, yellow meant talk if we've already met, green indicated, "I'd love to talk, but I'm not good at initiating."

And I find that, very disgusting. Sad that an autistic brother would feel that way about himself.

I wonder how effective plasmapheresis is at actual treatment of autism. I know chelation therapy was supposed to be a big deal until they found out it didn't work.

You get a sense of the excitement,' says Amaral, 'if you could prevent, say, 20% of kids from getting autism. But we don't want to raise false hopes."

Excitment definatley isn't how I'd describe it

Plasmapheresis sounds painful.
