I've got a Power Mac g5 with a ComCast cable internet connection--and I would be glad to help.
What exactly are you thinking in terms of a "new internet"? I assume this goes beyond Web 2.0?
But how would the router itself conect to AmyNet. Thats what i don't quite understand... Basically it forwards all the data to the nodes.
As long as it has good por...er...literature, yes literature searching features.

lol
But anyway. So basically, If i wanted to go onto my normal internet through my network. I can easily type google.co.uk and goto it. Where as if i wanted to go and see a web page on the AmyNet. I would have to go and enter something special? As how would it tell the difference between Internet Request and AmyNet requests...
I stiill don't understand.... and i don't think you answered my question...
So I have a hardware router. It has an internet Gateway 192.168.0.2
Where as, If i had a Spare box and turned that into a router, and i can setup it as a different Gateway, such as 192.168.0.3 that was linked to AmyNet.
So if i were to access the internet, I used the .2 Gateway. But for AmyNet the .3 gateway....
But How would the DSL router tell that packets would need togo to the AmyNet? So Basically, How would i setup a filtering system on the router so it knows where normal internet packets go and where the AmyNet packets go?
I was worried about Clashing IPs.
I am guessing there will also be an AmyNet DNS system. I guess the way the 'Domains' are set up would be different from internet. Would this go through a similar filterign system too? as it would quirey AmyNet DNS servers/Nodes. Not My ISP or whatever...
So would we need to setup our router box as a DNS itself, And that would act as the filtering system for us. which would be a bit of a pain to set-up really.
Ah decent stuff...
So is this client going to be. A modded version of another Opensource code or something.
Now that i understand how it all works.

Took a bit of awhile.
What to you plan this network to run and what it to be used for. Or is it just for the technical challenge I guess.
Bah, Dial-up direct links. Wouldn't they be slow? Unless you modded the hardware to some length to make it faster. But i guess you couldn't due to the quality of phone lines. I guess you could compress the data and use multiple lines, if you had any!
Wouldn't it be better to get a wireless Link between the two locations. You can use the standard WiFi of 54Mb/sec. But can be limited to weather and 10 miles... But much faster, somewhat reliable to a certain extent, cheaper (no phone bills!) and possible more secure as no one can tap in on to the line(not as some one gonna get in directly the middle and intercept the comunication as easily). But you do need a Direct Line fo Sight though between the two locations though...
Will it be user friendly and Idiot proofs. and will companies have logical layout on their pages of information. and a quick and easy place to always find the telephone number and address?
It sounds great. and no colours that are just too bright when you are here for a while like Fluorescent Yellow.
