Thanks for letting us know Jerry. At least it had a fair chance of being seen in cinemas for a limited time, and may still get more cinema viewings before it goes onto DVD.
A while ago a TV channel did a show that was a poll of the most popular movies in Australia. The strangest movies came up in the top 10. One of the most voted-for movies was Donnie Darko. It is remarkable because it attained cult status after DVD release, following an unsuccessful run at the flicks. So there could still be hope for Mozart and the Whale to achieve some kind of success.
Kalo said "I believe that Mozart and the Whale is about Jerry's own struggle and triumphs living with AS, however it doesn't represent others whom struggle and what is worst is we have actors portraying autistic people.
The last thing I want to hear is "hey there is no way you have AS" because you don't act like that guy Jerry Newport in Mozart And The Whale!"
See the film first, then decide.
....what is worst is we have actors portraying autistic people.
Yeah it's like Al Jolson singing "Mammy" in blackface. This kind of thing would be considered offensive today so maybe things will change for us too.
I dont see it like that at all. Actors act as other people all the time, its their job.
Yes. But isnt that because there was a mocking element, whereas with mozart and the whale it is respectful.
Isn't it true that if you have a link to another web site on your page, that directs your traffic to their sites, and not the other way round? So how does linking to the curebies from the movie web site help to inform curebies about the movie? Doesn't it just promote curebies to the crowd who are interested in the movie? :?
I noticed that here were links to Oops Wrong Medication Syndrome and Tony (Rose-Coloured Glasses) Attwood's site, and the arch-curebies, but where's the link to the AFF and Autistic Pride Day??? :?
Yes. But isnt that because there was a mocking element, whereas with mozart and the whale it is respectful.
I've seen lots of movies that actually were mocking of autistic people. They are portrayed in a very stereotypical manner as geeks and just strange people. Don't you think the movie Rainman was offensive to autistic people? Maybe it was unintentional but the parallels are there. The producers of The Jazz Singer didn't make the movie to mock black people but that's the way we see it today.
But I dont think that applies to Mozart and the Whale though.
Jerry do what you like.
I have taken months battling to get a site removed that stole the content from my site, that had tons of ads on, that was very stressful and they even copied the links page too.
I didnt notice you noticing any of that.
Nor would I expect you too, yet now you care?
Jerry, this site has no ads, where do you think the money is coming from to run it? Donations from profits from Mozart and the Whale?
No, its coming from other sites that we set up that DO have ads so that this site can stay ad free and provide a small amount of money to keep running it.
Or do I need permission to do that too?
What subject matter?
Mozart and the whale is not just a film about aspergers. I could have links to sites about taxi drivers, bird sellers, painters, depression support, whale outings, costume hire, fun fairs, mathematics forums, dating sites, romance advice, and 'how to impress your boss' guidelines.
And some of those are being linked to!
Well, I'm embarassed to admit that if this thread hadn't taken this turn I wouldn't have figured out to scroll down and look for the "fansite". After viewing it, I have to admit it the links page is confusing. I think it would make more sense to break up the links under headings.
As far as AFF being viable, that is all up to us. It won't happen by magic nor by all this constant bickering that goes on in the autism rights community. Why is it again and again, neurotypicals can set up (cure)organizations that practically hit the ground running. What would it take to say "I would like to see a link for Autistic Pride Day"?
I dont know exactly what is going on here, but since when did my fansite become a '"fansite", what is that all about?
If I want to link to my own sites on my own site what has that got to do with anybody else?
Have people heard about the sites that spew racial hatred, have illegal porn, and give people viruses and spyware through pop ups? Why isnt anyone complaining about them?
Marie, where is this constant bickering? Where is the community bickering with itself?
NTs are different than us, they do things differently, they could set up a charity in someone living room in 5 minutes if they wanted.
We arent meeting in each others living rooms, people dont meet up, we are all around the world, we can do the improbable and unlikely but the impossible will take us a bit longer.
Jerry, the problem is you want to own a concept, and you cant.
Think about it.
If I want to link to my own sites on my own site what has that got to do with anybody else?
Jerry: It is inappropriate for you to highjack interest in my movie to personal stuff of yours that is irrelevant.
How is it inappropiate for the author of a site to link to their own sites exactly?
I would understand if you were complaining about pornography or similar content, however I see nothing offensive in the links section.
The sites concern my special interests, and my husband and sons, we are all on the spectrum.
Jerry you are making a parody of your self by complaining about bickering the community and then making an argument over absolutely nothing.
If no-one was interested in your movie you would complain that 'the community is showing no support or interest' get over yourself already!
If you want to come back and make another whiney post, take a deep breath, and click the exit button, we don't need it.
Jerry, you started with the patronizing, seeya.
