What is this...a political party?
What's the point of starting a political party that is never going to get any sort of representation? In the UK it's possible for a party to get a million votes and if they are evenly spread you'll not get a single MP. As M said it's much better to petition existing elected officials.
If you want to advance your own ideas than it's possible for Aspies to get there within the existing parties. Most local political parties are short of activists and will be very grateful for help. I was even asked to stand for election at last year's general election (albeit in a complete no hope seat). I prefer the backroom stuff though. There's no reason why you can't get some way up the ladder.
We can form a special interest group. Make campaign contributions to members of the existing parties who will protect autistic rights. Encourage aspies to vote against their traditional party if the other candidate supports autistic rights.

That's a good idea. When I was working for a campaign in 1997 I was surprised how many letters we received from organisations wanting to know our candidate's view on all sorts of issues. At the very least it will raise the profile among politicians who might not even know what Aspies are all about.
If I can be any help (I know of a few MPs) then let me know.
That's why it's better to do M's idea of a pressure/campaign group. We may be in the situation of supporting friendly candidates of all different parties. Imagine if we could push our efforts into getting Auties of all political hues elected. I think that would be great.
We want to create an environment for ourselves which relies on the 'goodwill' of the major political parties. Do we forget that we are Aspies? We are amonge the most highly intelligent people and collectively we can become powerfull political assets to a major party. I for one have no issues in speaking or performing publically. However, each of us has differing political agenders; example I'm very right wing, believing in nationalism (please do not mistake that for racism). I think it's an insult that mainstream socitey brushes us under the carpet so easily when we are cognitively superior to them! Aspies have succeeded in the past in positions of office and I actually believe that this country needs a government with an aspie touch in order to drastically overhaul certain mechanisms in society in an unscrupulous and 'cold' manner. Society is in danger of moral naihillation and we are the ones (with our cold logic) who can fix it.
As for an aspie party; would it be presenting liberal or conservative views? We'd have to take stances on issues other than merely autistic rights. Where would we stand?
I say it take a more or less libertarian stance, "to each his own."
That is to say, you don't stick your morals and laws on my business, I don't stick mine in yours.
In the USA, form a PAC, target a single Representative and a single Senator. Once they have been bought and paid for, expand.
That's how an Indiana Congressman ended up becoming the voice of Sikhs in America for a while, even though there were only a couple hundred Sikhs in his district.

Let's see, should it advocate intrusive meddlesome government in favor of irrational leftist dogmas or advocate intrusive meddlesome government in favor of irrational right-wing dogmas?
How about abandoning both the irrationality of liberalism and the irrationality of conservativism?
I think there is a future in a political organization run by autistic people for autistic people (Most of them are run by NT's for NT's after all) But i think that a political party is definitely a non starter. The British political system is designed to exclude small parties. If people here are sincere about creating this organization lets sort out a meeting of some kind.
I don't think a political party would work out to well, as autistic people have all sorts of political ideas... however, a pressure/campaign group could make a difference, if we all started by writing to our local MPs or something.
... Though my local MP is a conservative and seems to have been in power here since 1904, it may still be worth a try.
How old is your MP steve!?
I dunno, he's only been in power here since 1983 really, but this is one of those places where the guy could die and people would still vote for him purely because he's a conservative.
We could always write to Ruth Kelly, our homophobic Women & Equality Minister... oh dear... we really are screwed here.
not sure about a party myself (being anarchist, i reject the idea of a state, favouring self-regulation). perhaps a direct action movement of radical left/anarcho aspies could come to fruition. anyone who's interested send me a message
