FUBAR, could you explain what you mean by that? It seems to me that you've used an emotionally evocative image to propagandize a gun as a tool of coercion.

I think of a gun as a tool of liberation.  I note that you claim to live in Finland, whose inhabitants used personal weapons to good effect against the bolsheviks from across the border.

It's what it says: Total control. When someone has a gun, it doesn't matter who the person on the other side of the gun is. It does not discriminate. Big, small, rich, poor, black, white, religious, atheist, you get the point. When someone has a gun, all men are equal. Nobody wants to die - the person with the gun has total control.

PS. Minä todella asun Suomessa. Kuulostaa siltä kuin kyseenalaistaisit sen.

it seems to me, if its hard to buy a gun, then its unlikely some petty theif robbing your house will have, who will he steal it from?
sure criminals will always have guns,.. but it'd mostly be the big criminal rings, harldy the type to break into your house..

in any case, id much rather lose all my possessions then shoot someone to keep them..
guns are stupid.
end of discussion.
why not put all those f*cking resources in to buying penicillin for dying children in africa?

such idiots "i want a gun cos it makes me feel safe"
buy a f*cking TANK and park it in your garage.

iiiiidooots.

(NOTE THIS IS MY OPINION.)
From a certain point of view, guns are good since we are overpopulated anyway.

strange point of view,
we could use the resources to explore space and perhaps create colonys.

We would have to send a large space ship every hour with at least 5000 people in it just to combat current birth rate!
hmm...
well
still killing ppl is stupid, lets build upward.
higher buildings?
or perhaps have births in the sea, and look what happends with children who are born underwater, perhaps we could have "water people" living in the sea, that would reduce the overpopulation a great deal.

still having guns for that reason is stupid imo.
and think about the airplanes, how often do they fly?
why would it be so absurde to fly them every hour?
perhaps have a "no new children on earth, only in space" rule or something like that.

Yikes.  Actually the "best" (most efficient & "fair") population reducers are natural disasters (which a friend of mine refers to as "God's little pruning shears") and I can't say I'm overjoyed about those either. :?

Those occur way too infrequently to have any effect. Unless there's some Armageddon or Ice Age II. I don't know about fairness, if you can't put your feelings aside as you kill to survive (animals are mangled into meat as we speak), you are not the animal you were born as. Fact is, there will not be enough food and water after certain point. It's pointless to support life where it has grown out of the... support ability of the ecosystem in question (or whatever the correct term is, I don't know the word). I'm sure people will change their minds about charity and food programmes if the food would be taken directly from THEM, which will ultimately be the case.

Suppose Adam and Eve lived in a barren desert. "Adam, I don't know how to say this but... There is barely enough food for the two of us... How are we going to feed our children?" - Gee Eve, ever heard of WFP?? ( http://www.wfp.org/english/ ) Now let's proceed breeding like rabbits. "Oh, Adam! "

I mean, you don't see me creating a colony on the Moon and begging for people to send me oxygen and food because I'm too poor to afford it?

Bleh, I shouldn't be saying this. Nobody takes it seriously because it's "inhumane" to think such things! Oh the humanity!

PS. Who has the technology and resources to build a MASSIVE SPACE SHIP every HOUR just to keep the population on Earth stable??? Nobody, that's who. Water people? Drown them instead! My misanthropic side takes control! Aaaaagh!

Don't worry, Fubar.  Everything will be all right!

I hope situation stays as it is until I die. After that, all hell can break loose, I won't care!

Maybe all hell breaking loose will CAUSE your death.  Maybe some epidemic will get you!   Then, in your dying moments, you can muster a smirk as you are sucked into the great void:  "See? I was right!  We DID have too damn many people!"

Actually it may be so that I and some selected few are immune to said epidemic and finally enjoy true solitude. But who the hell is going to clean up all the corpses?

Wolves are armed with sharp teeth!

Love your avatar! Cool

You'd prefer losing everything to shooting a criminal?

Is this for "moral" reasons or just because you'd be uncomfortable shooting someone?

why would i want to hurt someone or possibly kill them...?
its just stuff...
