If (and I hope when) a town(< most likely)\city\country for aspies is made what are the possible advantages it could give to autistics living elsewhere? It would of course be great for those living there but, that would be only a small percent of us. It would bring positive awareness though the media esp. on APD.
Disadvantage: "go live with your own kind, weirdo!"

Advantage: it's a charmingly bizarre idea, and those are always pleasing to hear about.

You won't get a town, but you could maybe form one of those gated communites like old people have in Florida.

In fairness no-one knows what will or wont happen.
Of course, once we got it all running smoothly, guess who would want to move in and take over?

Answer: A cultue of candor, or else nothing.

If you really don't like the idea, please don't fill all the threads in this forum section with negative connotations.
You have now stated how you feel.

People want to be able to discuss and work on the idea without having threads overtaken with objections because it doesn't help.

Make one thread to give views, which you have already done, but don't join all the threads to give the same viewpoint and derail them.

One of  the things that worries me about this whole thing, is the separation.

I have been in churches where they were very much about being separate from the other people, and in that case you can't help the other people much, can you?  and if you have learned something that you want to share with others, you can't do that if you never go meet them.

Of course, AS is not a religion, but what it has in common is that it is a way (or ways) of thinking that NT's can learn something from. And we can learn something from their way(s) of thinking.

Like my boss is very NT and big-picture, while I am very detail-oriented.  Sometimes we can work on something and between the two of us we get it right.

And I think my (mostly NT) students and I both benefit from our interaction.  I learn a lot from them about what/how normal people think and act, and especially I learn from them and their real-life catastrophes, that the most social, with-it, NT person can also suffer.
I hope they learn from me something, too.  Whether it's just Spanish, or whether it's also about making the most of whatever kind of personality you have, instead of trying to be what the world expects you to be.

But I think that the Island is an extremely interesting idea, as long as we don't disconnect more than is necessary for our own peace and sanity.

And as has been mentioned, I think it would be good if we export technology and art ... and also awareness.
it would give the world superior electronics and electrical equipment Tongue cars and such Tongue
If it was extremely large maybe, otherwise it begs the question do you have any idea how much land and employees a major production operation like that takes up, far better to make software or something similar, does not require such a huge plant to make.
I personally agree with you about the fund, although would probably be better if this was somehow enforced I must admit and that individuals who were working contributed some as well, then this fund could also be used for the construction and operation of public facilities we would also need such as schools, medical practices, hospitals (when large enough), transit systems (again only needed once we get larger and distances become too large to walk allways), maintenence of public infrastructre (roads, power, water etc).

Of course some of those could be ran as commercial enterprises but not all without risking a tiered system which works against the less well off people, transit, power, water etc could all be, however having commecially run hospitals and schools is of course a bad system in practice as it can leave the less privilidged of the community going without. Things like power given the requirement for energy services in our community needing to be from clean sources may be either very difficult or very easy to attract, some private companies are for instance having trouble pushing through alternative energy showcase projects in some of the more developed countries which seam to be opting for the old known methods may jump at the oppertunity to use our project as a showcase for their novel and innorvative designs for alternative energy in a working commercial model.

We could probably use this fund also to acheive the goal of our community becoming a forerunner in innovation and in many ways an example to much of the world by offering much heavier incentives to innovative projects, we also actually have the facilities to truely become a forerunner in such innovation even though it might be expensive in that we are a fresh start in the 21st century, we will not be stuck with aging dated technologies and ideas from ages gone by which nobody wants to shell out the money to replace, another advantage is we are developing in a time when such innovative designs are becoming available rapidly and in a time where we have the foreknowledge and foresight to know that the old systems are bad for all their various reasons and can therefore develope above that avoiding the pitfalls of the past, granted we may fall into pitfalls of the future, we also however I hope may have the forward momentum as a community which focuses on innovation to keep our community moving forward and not risk some of the stagnation of older systems.

I do not mean to detract from the serious nature and many good ideas of your post, but I really like that phrase. plus, it sounds like a good name for a rock band (pls. excuse tangent).

But yeah, a lot to think about ... I very much like the idea of having more protection of people and of nature than the typical country has.
