The trick, pikachu, isn't to tell people it's your birthday when your birthday's almost over, because then you don't get the cards and the presents.
The way to do it is announce your birthday a week in advance, tell people when it's going to be, and then sit back and wait for all the cards and pressies to arrive.
Or, in my case, because my birthday is at the beginning of September when everyone is either still on holiday, or it's before term time so there's no one around, you decide to be like the Queen and in addition to your real birthday which no one's around for, you have an 'official birthday' on a convenient date and celebrate it then!
