No, not Paul Smith the fashion designer: Paul Smith, an 18-year-old from Sedgebrook near Grantham in Lincolnshire, who according to all the news reports "suffers" from Asperger's syndrome.

I've been writing about this on the unofficial Aspergia messageboard and have started a massive arguement on the Daily Mail boards which had to be removed.

Smith's innocent.

Quote:
He added: "I do not know if this disturbing part of your personality arises from the condition from which you undoubtedly suffer but I am sure that you are and have been for some time now a considerable danger to young girls."

i will reserve comment on whether or not i think this person is guilty or innocent (since i don't have all the evidence available) but the judges comments are extremely offensive.

Yet another unnecessary connection of AS to violence. As I've said in other posts, it will happen every time. How does the public see us - as high profile murderers ? In this case I think both the defence and the judge are at fault. The defence for presumably, claiming diminished resposibility and the judge for the ignorant and damaging speculation on the link between AS and violence.

I am in despair.
The NAS maintains that there is no connection between Autism and offending. A Google search for 'Autism' and 'Aggression' turns up more than 30,000 hits.

That's the power of hysteria.
From the research I have done a person with autism is certainly much more likely to BE murdered than to murder someone else.
We have a thread full of cases of murder of autistics and aspies.

I can't comment specifically on this recent case as I know so little about it, I will want to research it first.
