Has anyone noticed a huge rise in the CAN/DAN/Autism Speaks propaganda coming from all forms of media, at least in the US?  I have heard more plugs and commercials about curing autism in the last two weeks than I can recall hearing in the past year, including...

Channel 11 (Fox in LA), Star radio 98.7, KROQ 106.7, and all of the other network channels.  What is going on?  It has to be insanely profitable to be affording all of that commercial time, unless they're playing the charity cards and getting it donated.

Anyone else noticed this recently?
It may be spam for the upcoming Autism Profit Month, er I mean Autism Awareness Month.
The curebie brigade are really one of the most media savvy of any group I have seen.
We are seeing much less cancer cure funding in the news, and for other serious and deadly illnesses? They used to get well deserved attention and help.

Now it seems like the drama spotlight is on autism, which is never deadly.
a major reason why autism is getting so much attention is becuase it invoves children "that don't deserve to be afflicted with the most terrible brain cancer called autism, and now their lives are ruined and will be forever dependent unless they are cured of autism".  i know for a fact this is all false.  i'm 20, and although still dependent on my parents (many children here in the us are) and live at home, i'm about to finish my bacholers degree in another 8 months or so, and hopefully have a job and become independent in the next few years (which i can most likely do if i had to now).  and to automaticlly assume my life is going to be better non autistic is wrong as well.  becuase i was autistic, i approached things alot diffrently than my peers and contributed to my acdemic success.  my life was not reduced in value becuase i'm being myself, it's just a diffrent lifestyle than most.  and i can tell you right now, it is not a disease or anything like that.  autisic born, autistic bred and when i'm gone, i'll be autistic dead.

they claim autism is a disease that affects soical interaction and the such.  ironically, those are socially established expecations...so autism is just not acheving that expecation.  and how about those non autistics that had low soical interactions?  they just say they are diffrent.  i think they just hate autistic people and want to eliminate autistic people becuase we are soically stupid.  and here's something about disease...the people who have the disease want to cure themselves of it becuase they feel pain from the disease.  most autistics want to stay the way they are and don't want to be changed to non autistic.  that proves that it is not a disease that causes pain.

i would feel better if this time was going twoards curing childhood cancer (which i belive is also a fraud), but at least it's something that causes pain for everyone involved.

looks like this year's "be mean to autistics month" will be really bad.  autism hate speech is going to be more rampant than ever...we gotta keep fighting against the hate speech.
I can understand how you feel.

I think we should love bomb the hate speech.
Must be that some people can profit from promoting cure of autism or why would they bother?

"i would feel better if this time was going twoards curing childhood cancer (which i belive is also a fraud), but at least it's something that causes pain for everyone involved."  People are already profiting from the children with cancer business.  The drugs and therapies are enormously expensive.  Then they are the people who collect human hair to make "wigs" for children with cancer.  They have warehouses of hair donated.  Each wig is custom made for the children and costs $3000 - $4000 US.  Only most people do not know that the people who run the charity are in the wig making business.

Do you ever notice that many autism centers also run ABA therapies? Some of the curbie autism charities might be run by parents and doctors but rarely are there people who have autism on their boards.  So someone is likely making money for the charity.  Check it out.
Some parents are motivated in the mistaken belief that autism is a disease that can be removed, leaving behind their 'real' child.
But many organizations are cashing in on fear and ignorance to make megabucks on autism therapies and "cures".
Hey, I just put an anti-ad idea on another thread (Campaign Idea thread).  My school is now surrounded by CAN ads (I am not exaggerating).  I saw 7 billboards.  I really want to post a statement from (me/aff/autistic community?) right over them.   Send me your thoughts about this.
UGH! That would make me sick.
I will reply in the General forum section.
It must be terrible being an aspie who has to look at anti-autism advertising in everyday life. I don't have to put up with such stuff where I live. If I did I'm sure my blood pressure would go out of control!

That would make a great song lyric.
