This summer, adults and children with autism can take part in a camp that focuses on outdoor recreation.

Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp provides challenging outdoor adventures for children and adults with disabilities and has just added a new program for people with autism.

The new program will allow the camp, which serves more than 500 people with disabilities, to accommodate 128 more campers this summer. There will be four weeklong camps at the Oral Hull Foundation in Sandy, with room for 32 campers each, between July 9 and Aug. 4. The campers are divided based on their age.

The goal of the new program is to give people with autism heightened self-esteem and self-reliance. Campers will take part in activities such as fishing, hiking, swimming putt-putt golf and more.

Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp was founded by a Kiwanis Club, but is an independent nonprofit organization.
