Cognitive tests are not essential, and are not always, or even often, done. It depends on the country. Your country sounds quite thorough, but to do that for everyone would be more expensive, and some countries have years waiting lists, even for children. I posted a news story about the situation in wales, where I live.

I was not given a cognitive test.  What would a cognitive test prove?  Or rather should I say what is a cognitive test?   I am wondering if my pshycologist figured that he didn't have to give me that test because I am an adult and maybe a cognitive test wouldn't prove anything.

I did go back to the phsycologist who tested me 5 months ago and he said that he stands by his diagnoses that it is AS.

Who knows?  Though the only thing I find confort in is I found a website that for Women who have AS, and it says how hard it is to diagnose in women and that a lot do go undiagnosed or not diagnosed correctly.

Before I saw my phsycologist who specialized in Developmental problems I was told by one other shrink that I had Social Anxiety.

But even though I was put on drugs I still was the same person....

Cognitive tests don't "prove" anything, but they pick up how your brain works, information processing, calculation, theory of mind, especially with language and communication and it can show a pattern of AS related problems if you do have it.

Come to think of it many years ago I had this done when they tested me for dyslexia.  I don't think they new about Asperger back then.

The clinician will ask you questions, look at your history and observe your behaviour etc and it is possible for them to rule AS out. The presence of the 'triad of impairments' is also important.

Well my clinician did ask questions did all the above minus the cognitive testing.  I think the best thing to do is for me to forget about what it is I have and just accept who I am.   There are some days I accept the diagnosis of AS and days that I don't.

I truly wish that I can get help as far as therapy. Maybe so I can just better understand myself.

Thanks Karms for the link as well...I'll take a look at it...

Hi kalo, I'm a newbie here, aspie and also asexual.

You might find the following site of interest and/or help:
http://www.asexuality.org/home/

There are lots of us over there!
Hi Aerial!

Thanks for the link.  It's tough being asexual sometimes!!  It's hard having AS on top of that and being Asexual is no walk in the park.

Because of my limited interest I always want to talk about music and when trying to join in with others I find myself limited and often get quiet.

Well imagine trying to hang with girls and they are all in talking about the guys they dated or the ones that are often married and have kids....

I don't connect with either of them...

Thanks again for the link!

Also, being asexual.

Could you be more specific ? Would this include issues about sexual development and puberty ?

And all along I thoght I was the only one...

It's kind of odd with the eye test, because it's not like when you're looking at someone, there are 4 options hovering around their head, and you can just pick one.
What is INTP stand for?

It's one of the Myers-Briggs typologies, http://www.e-mbti.com/intp.php.

I'm an INTP, and my response to this thread's title is, "What if all INTPs are really autistic?" Big Grin
