I applied for a part-time job.
I am not really sure what the duties are but the job ad said office assistant. They asked me to come for a 5 minute interview in an e-mail - It says they need "an energetic, happy, well dressed and well mannered girl to work as an assistant to a marketing agent." Also that "English fluency is not required". All training is required.
So what should I do or say at the interview? The job pays well.
Somehow the idea of game show hostess comes up from the energetic, happy, well dressed GIRL part.
an energetic, happy, well dressed and well mannered girl
Does that describe you? I know it doesn't describe me.

.............energetic and happy, no, but I can fake it.
The clients are mainly doctors and lawyers. The company is a medical rehab clinic. I figure they probably do not want some bimbo wearing a tight low cut top and a mini skirt. That would distract the clients from the presentation.
My resume says I used to work in a church and museum.
I made up a resume to take to the interview. I put my photo on it and some other stuff.
I am assuming that the assisting part will just be flipping charts or running a power point presentation and being quiet during the "show".
I thought I might just wear a conservative black suit, white blouse for the interview. ???? Maybe the person will just not like me but I have to try because it pays so well for a part-time job. The only other job is a personal support worker (cleaning up diapers?) for a young woman who has an intellectual disability ???? what is that?
I hate going to interviews. I get so much hope and then I get so disappointed.

It could mean anything, ask for more info. It could be an autistic woman who needs help with daily living, for example.

I am shocked at the wording of the advert. Is gender discrimination still legal where you live? It's been illegal here in England for many years, except for certain care assistant jobs.
That description was not published. They sent me an email after they got my application so they knew that I was a woman. They do not know how old I am since I do not put dates of graduation.
I do think it would be illegal to use that type of job description in an ad.
Intellectual disability could mean autistism but more likely it is mental retardation. If someone is having to hire a person to come in a help with personal care then mostly likely that person can not wash, dress, bath themselves and can not cook. I do not mind doing some of that. I just feel that some families will hire someone to do that and then expect them to clean the whole house and cook the family meal too. Anyway I will take my husband to the interview with me. He is worried about heavy lifting and if the person could be violent.
Let us know how you go. And best of luck!
Alison
I do not have any coloured blouses. I just have white. I do not have time to get one at a charity shop. Maybe if I wear a silk scarf with the suit?
Thank you.
My husband told me that these rehab clinics will only hire "good looking and in shape people". I am overweight. I will wear an appropriate compressing undergarment. On the grooming part: I have plucked my eyebrows, washed my hair, painted my fingernails. I am even planning to wear makeup. I do not have a nice coat or expensive boots or handbag but hopefully that will not be noticed too much. If I was rich why would I need a job?
I am going to read a joke book on the train ride there. That should make me smilely.
The personal support attendant job interview process isn't going too well. They cancelled my appointment and when I called back they seemed concerned over my lack of experience. I asked if they needed alot of personal care, if they could use the bathroom themselves. They would not discuss it. They want someone to take their daugther to her classes. That would mean I would have to buy a bus pass at $100/month. I would only be making about $400 and then after tax, why bother?
The attendant job was not suitable since the family expected me to come up with how to teach their daughter "life skills" and find community programs for her. They need a social worker.
The other job - they did not explain what I would be doing other than "assisting in marketing presentations". The interview, I believe, was just to see what the applicants looked like: fat, attractive, cheerful. I was very smilely. There were dozens of women there and surprising, the clinic (which was described as "do not call us as we are very busy) was empty, no patients. My husband said there are alot of insurance scam clinics where patients just sign in, do not receive really much therapy at all and insurance companies are billed. The doctors and lawyers who refer patients to the clinics sometimes get some money, illegally, for doing so. He said an indicator is dusty exercise equipment. (if the clinic is so busy, then why are all the machines broken and dusty?) I did not notice if the machines were dusty, just that there were no patients there. So I am not expecting to be called back. Anyway I would not like to work for people who are not ethical.
I try something new. I applied for a job that said they were an equal opportunity employer. I put on the application letter that I had a disability that often caused other workers to bully me because I was different but did not affect my work. I am wondering if they will call me.
There used to be a trend in job ads where it would say that "a second language was an asset". I think they asked that just so they could discriminate against immigrants but not get caught.
Maybe they simply booked no patients in for that day as they knew they would be busy interviewing.
I applied for a part-time job in a bakery in a large grocery store near where I live. I wonder what will happen.
Hmm, I've been told that there is a lot of demand for "carers" but personally wouldn't want to clean nappies except for small babies.
I would require some training to be a "personal support worker" or "caregiver". Some of the positions pay better than other jobs. I have done "granny sitting" before but it was really depressing. Also if I am working with someone who does not have good judgement, I will do whatever they tell me to do since I really don't have good judgement either. - then there is trouble.
I guess I would have to work for someone who is intellectually soundand could communicate well but physically disabled and would order me around like a slave. - probably abuse me. So I don't think it is the job for me.
Yes, I think it would be difficult. Probably could do this kind of job under some circumstances. It might be a bit like nursing in some ways. I never was keen on the idea of becoming a nurse but my sister and brother-in-law are both nurses now and they say it can be really hard.
Well, I think job satisfaction is the most important thing. Sure it's nice to be paid well but not if it is a job you hate.
