Great now we can be known as "aspie perverts".
If it was considered "normal" for him to play this types of games:  truth or dare?  or "doctor" where children remove clothing then he might just keep playing those games when he got older.  Children playing these types of games where they remove clothing might seem harmless when they are just playing with other children but not if they are playing with adults.  Actually, I think that any type of game that involves removing clothing or sexplay should not be played by anyone other than consenting adults in private, not even children with children.

Children can very often be abused by other children, older or even younger.
Even if he has a mental age of 19, he could still be at a lower social age.  It does not excuse what he did.

I remember learning to hard way that doing something that was "cool" at age 12 was not "cool" at age 17.  So age appropriate jokes, play, social interaction are all problems to people with AS.
"Lowe, of Frobisher Close"

This may be the funniest thing I've ever read.
I forgot about the previous convictions part.  He knew it was wrong but he felt compelled to repeat the crime?   Usually children are supervised in public places/tourist sites but are any children safe from him?  I hope he does not live near a school or park where children play.

I remember seeing a study somewhere into child psychology and the fact that all children seem to do that kind of play with each other quite independant of external coercion at a certain age shows it's probably a natural and important stage of self identity development. But obviously, yes when an adult attempts to exploit that behaviour it's a serious problem, but between children it's probably quite harmless provided they are coerced out of it before they become too old and begin learning about things like sex.

As for the case though - it doesn't bode well if they star identifying Aspies are murderers and perverts.

He shouldn't get to be in a mental home, too good for the ***, stick him in an adult prison, on the main wings, only good paedophile is a dead paedophile.
I agree with flardox and BardWolf.

Circles of Support and Accountability - http://www.lucyfaithfull.org/circles.htm - work with sex offenders with the aim of helping them avoid further offending.  They are designed to be both a support and a safety mechanism for sex offenders,  befriending them whilst holding them accountable for further actions.   They have been successful in reducing further offences,  and leading police officers have spoken favourably of them.
I love it when people try to stick up for them.

Some are nasty and deserve punishment if it was serial event. Others I feel, to be frank are not what they seem. I think this Lowe guy needs help, and hate isn't helping him.

And no I don't approve pedophila so don't twist my words

Nor mine either, if it comes to that, because I've experienced the crime in question at the hands of more than one person, and I know it's a really bad thing to do to someone.

One of the people who did it to me, was autistic, and did get therapy, and I am confident in saying he will never do it to anyone again.  Possibly especially because, due to being autistic, he was more honest about what he'd done and why than most people, and therefore more able to resolve it (and it wasn't because of a pathological attraction to children, either, it was more complicated than that).

The other person would probably never stop, and is not autistic (but also has no access to children anyway due to circumstances).

So I've seen both sorts of people, and I know that both sorts of people exist.

And quite often, from what I've heard (although this did not apply as much to the person who did it to me), people with developmental disabilities in general have reasons for becoming sex offenders that often differ from the reasons most people do, and often have a lot to do with the combination of difficulty learning certain things, and other people treating them like children (when they shouldn't be treated like that), such that sometimes everyone they're around is children, even past the age where they're becoming sexual.  So a lot of it is environmental in that case and it's not the same thing as pedophilia (just as homosexuality from being in a same-sex environment isn't the same thing as having a natural inclination in that direction).  And people who have trouble learning social rules can have trouble learning that one as much as any other one, without being pedophiles.

None of which makes the crime any better for the person experiencing it, but it does make a big difference in what should happen to the person who does it.

And no, I don't think it's the worst crime.  The worst crimes are ones that kill large numbers of people.  The leader of my country is doubtless guilty of some of those.  And I would hate to see what would happen to someone who walked up to the family of a murder victim, or someone who has just lost all their family and friends to war or murder or genocide, and tell them that at least they weren't molested (although in fact sexual acts are often performed as acts of domination and aggression in those circumstances as well, which is yet another thing besides pedophilia that sexual violence towards children can originate from).  At any rate, there's a heck of a lot worse than being molested in the world, even if being molested is really bad.  It's just not the worst thing possible.  I would rather have been molested (and I have been, so I know what I'm talking about) than see everyone I care about killed in front of me, or even than have people I care about killed at all.

Very good points there. I also would say that putting this young man in with hardened offenders is not going to be any good. Better to have him in a mental hospital and find out why he did what he did and teach him how to act more appropriately in the future.
Beat him til his SOUL bleeds!
No, it's what I believe.

I stand with Lestat Paedophile-wise.

The issue I see with life imprisonment is there is always a risk that they'll either escape or be released, on top of the issue of funding - i.e being fed and looked after costs money. However, this is an issue that i'm probably not qualified to judge completely so i'll concede that life imprisonment is perhaps much better if there is no option of release.

Maybe we should just kill them then? ;]
