this is a poem i wrote for my M.A. in creative writing, a couple of years ago. it's in Sestina form - i liked the mathematical way a sestina has to be written/set out, with the formula for the repeating words at the ends of lines.
i'd appreciate your comments...
the doubt of physics.
this paradigm rests on uncertainty,
the movement of half-life across distance:
your nuclear reaction leads to chaos,
matter + antimatter = nothing.
the key is not equivalence but duality,
and I don’t want your space
why mean “time”, when you say “space”?
is this a measure of your uncertainty?
collision cannot subsume our duality;
mathematics cannot measure your distance.
cause and effect means nothing
can be created or destroyed in this chaos
you stand in delusion, I, in chaos,
and entropy ensures this space
is filled with matter. nothing
and everything matters as, sitting with uncertainty,
I cannot keep my distance.
proton and electron – this is our duality,
the attraction of our duality,
but your empiricism, your refusal of chaos,
is setting a universe as distance.
at the centre of the storm, I clear a space
for a tiny butterfly, called uncertainty.
but you are certain, doubting nothing.
your inertia will leave you with nothing;
you carry your own black hole, refuse duality.
but charged ions will attract. uncertainty
can be motive to shape the chaos.
you think you are solid, but the space
between your molecules is distance
immeasurable. particles waving across the distance,
which is light years, and nothing:
there is no solidity, or empty space.
excuses underline your personal duality;
as observer, I am subjective, affected by your chaos –
the probability is an atom of uncertainty.
keep your distance, reject dynamic balance of duality,
offer a quantum of yourself, which is nothing but chaos;
and in the space between us, where was fusion, we will decay into uncertainty.
