Is self-employment a feasible option for people with developmental disorders such as autism?

I think a person would have to be able to self motivate/self discipline and be good at planning.
I don't think there are many opportunities right now. Of all the people I meet I only know 1 person that is working from home and self employed and is struggling.

Its a good idea in theory, I wish there was some kind of system that would allow it to be feasible for many. Maybe there is a secret formula for it. :?
