Last year in the relationships discussion room of Aspergia I told some of you that I had met someone on another (spanish-speaking) AS forum, and that I would let you guys know how it went.  And around the time we met I also disappeared off the website, and only just barely found out about the closing of Aspergia.
Well.  To get to the current point in the story, ever since January I have been emailing and chatting with Gabriel.  He is a wonderful man, with a surprising intellect, and he really cares about me.  It's a relief, for both of us, to finally \"belong with\" someone.  We got to visit in July when I went to South America (with my mother) to meet him and his family.
Oh yeah, and ....
As of earlier this month, Gabriel and I are now engaged :!: and we hope to marry in the summer of 2005.

I wanted to let you know this because:
(1) something I had lost hope of has happened, and I'm really Big Grin happy!
(2) it means that 2 AS people can have a relationship of more than 2 months, which was about how long I usually lasted in relationships before a guy decided I was weird or I decided he was creepy.
(3) I browsed around after a long absence and noticed that the people who run this site have announced they are engaged, so it seemed ok to post such an announcement.
(4) some of you might remember me from Aspergia and be happy for us.  Although I remember that when people would tell me their stories that were designed to inspire hope (\"well, if [my husband and I] met each other by [whatever unlikely chain of events], then anyone can meet the right person!\"), I always just felt jealous, without even noticing the faulty logic of the statement.  But I hope some of you are more balanced than me.

OK I can't think of anything more to say so I'm going to go now.
Thanks for listening.

Congratulations to you nlek!!! To both of you.
It is amazing to find happiness and we really appreciate it as we know many others who have not found happiness yet in a romantic relationship and we do understand that situation having been there ourselves in the past.
The best of luck  Smile
aspie-aspie relationships are wonderful things Smile
yes they are.  Thanks to you both for your friendly comments.  Smile
Good luck to you both, speaking as one who has been in such a relationship for eleven plus years. It takes a lot of work but is worth it.
It is really important to remember that you must know your own limits. Don't put the relationship ahead of who you are.
