What about a slogan to use alongside the logo and on banners etc.?
I was thinking "Autistic Pride and no Predjudice", as a take on the book of a similar name.
i was thinking of "acceptance not cure"
What about if it had a different theme each year?
Such as against cure, against ABA, better rights, etc.
If it's to be an AFF specific march than a theme would be a good thing but only if it's a protest march. If it's to be a march out of pride and everyone is welcome if you support 'acceptance, not murder' then the theme should be in favour of all Aspies and organisations all joining in to promote the same message. Have any other pro-Aspies organisations been contacted to get them to join in?
I have been telling as many as possible, to spread the word to other places. For instance on Autism Talk. We want everyone to be aware of it now, and then beofre the day have a press release and try to get as much publicity as possible.
I think a slogan for each year would prevent it being hijacked by NT parents who may want to use it for their own means, such as mercury etc.
If it was clear that it was Autistic pride day 2005 - Acceptance Not Cure, then that would stop some of them taking away the message or meaning of it all.
We dont just want an awareness march, as if parents have banners of "Be aware that vaccines cause autism bla bla" its not good.
Obviously we cant stop what people choose to do around the world, but if we can inform that its about pride and accepting differences etc it will help.
I got one. "Autistic Pride Day. It's going to be so big, CAN walks would be tiny bugs compared to it! SQUUUUIIIIIISH!"
:!: Mich :?:
Definitely not a focal chant or anything, but "trash CAN".
Trash CAN is good on a poster, but would a passer by understand it?
Also in the UK we dont have trash can's, (we have rubbish bins) though most people would understand the term.
I guess people could chant whatever they preferred during a parade/march.
I know this idea is of no use to anyone outside of Australia, but I noticed that the word "aspie" sounds almost the same as the word "Aussie" and the word "Australian" can be substituted by the word "Aspergian".
One could spoof Australiana to raise awareness of AS, but this could get you in a bit of trouble re copyright etc. Imagine people chanting "Aspie! aspie! aspie! oi! oi! oi! Imagine a choir singing that patriotic and inspiring anthem "I am, you are, we are Aspergian".
I like "Acceptance not cure"
I like "Acceptance not cure"
Sounds great.
I have got to agree, those words do work well together.

"Pride, not Prejudice" maybe? I like the take on "Pride and Prejudice" though, I just think "Autistic Pride and no Predjudice" does not quite roll off the tongue well enough to be a slogan.
Well any other ideas can be used on future years, as there will be a new theme/slogan for each year. For instance a new theory may come up, or more genetic information that may be pertinent at the time.
I vote for "Pride, not Prejudice" as Noetic proposed in a variation of my initial idea.
