I first hear of Autism Speaks on a financial news channel here in the US, CNBC. They were auctioning off a painting of out going FED chairman Alan Greenspan with the proceeds being donated to Autism Speaks. The painting sold for over $3 million.
looks like things got a bit easier for us...now we can target both "charties" at the same time.
i'm kinda shocked how autism speaks is getting so much press so fast. if we don't stop them, it won't be long until they have everyone conviced we are bad. i think autism speaks is more dangerous than can is, due to nbc's infulence in the general media. also, i think autism speaks has a more dangerous viewpoint as they seem to refer to it as a disease instead of a disorder (i think both are bad connations), but disease sounds like it's a life threating illines, and last i checked, autism is not.
and what's with this "autism community" junk? are they autistic? no. mabye they should have a new name for that community and we take over the autism community name, as autistics live autism everyday firsthand, instead of viewing it from the third person as the curebies do.
how about we take a vote for new names for the curebie community? how about "we hate autism", or "cure autism" "mmr vaccine causes harm" or something like that. i think they call themselves the so called "autism community" becuase they belive that autistic people are stupid and can't comprehend anything and the rest of the false sterotypes, and that they as parents have to speak on their behalf. since their autism experince is third person, it's going to be blurred. it's like me trying to talk about being a pro baseball player, i dont know, i can only watch. usually, the parents spew about the agony that is rasing an autistic child like an nt child (won't work, it's like training a mac computer to act like a windows) and that a cure will make them happier. they don't know exactly what their child wants, the parents are just acting based on what they think is best for the child, and usually the parents don't act in the best intrest of the child, defeating his self esstem and forcing them to be nt and act like a miracle. the main goal for the parents is to turn their autistic child into an nt child that they can raise easier with their apsrations still in tact. this kind of thinking makes me sick.

Let them throw their money away researching for a "cure". I don't believe there is one, and our numbers are growing steadily. Eventually they'll have to acknowledge that we are a genetically-different population. Although what will happen then is anybody's guess.

What is a good title that is acceptable to both sides, that makes it clear who is being spoken about, and that isnt too long so that its unmanageable?
the neurotypical community.
Do you think that would be acceptable to them though?
If a newbie parent of a newly diagnosed child comes online they would be unlikely to know what neurotypical means.
I believe people even neurotypicals are starting to use the word neurotypical as is becoming an acceptable word to use. So I don't think it would be too far of a leap for them to accept neurotypical community next. Parents of a newly diagnosed child wouldn't know the right/proper terminology anyways even if it wasn't an autistic diagnoses.
