Q: In your book you mention possible perceptions and misgivings that people may have about you as a parent because you are a lesbian and also autistic. But it seems to me that your extraordinary compassion and sensitivity to all that's going around you and also your intrinsic connection to the past would in fact be wonderful skills to have as a parent. Could you comment?
A: Yes, I agree, and I tried to make that point strongly in the book. We all have failings - as individuals and certainly as parents - I think the best thing is to be honest about those possible areas in need of improvement. Both parents - and children, when they are old enough - should talk about these things.
