Effective change involves acknowledging the small bits of truth in what the other side says, getting them to understand your truths, and working together to figure out how to make the pieces fit

While I think this is a good eventual goal, before this can happen people need to realize that there actaully is more than one side to the issue in the first place(something I don't think most people realize).

I live near Orlando. When is it scheduled?   I really want to give them a piece of my mind!!!!!!!!!! Cure Autism Now? You know what I say? I say autism is the cure! We should be proud of who we are! I have AS and I tell you growing up with uncaring classmates and teachers sucked, but I have  superior intelligence and I wouldn't give that up for anything in the whole world. Even people with low-functioning autism have something that only a few people could ever dream of.
Hey im new to this, and as my name suggests, i have AS (proudly), anyone got a feeling that CAN will get jumpy and make the goverments force the horrid cure when they find(hopefully never  )?

Maybe they'll shoot us with "cure darts". I just recently saw X-Men III, if you couldn't tell.Big Grin Man was that film weird.

Gareth, I would love to hear your opinion on how a drug would work. It interests me a lot.

I think the bottomline is that Cure autism now would say that we Aspies can speak so who are we to decide for others who can't, which is what they always do.
So, its a walk they want. Well I say we do the opposite! I say we go around in wheelchairs! ...or segways... or anything else that requires you to do the opposite of walking...
Or, perhaps instead of doing the opposite of walking, we walk with big signs that say things like "We walk FOR autistics, NOT against" or something.
"We want Recognition - Not a cure!" Might make a nice sign?

kylo4, it might not be sensible for Gareth discuss a potential drug here, as it might give Curbie creeps ideas! Lets not forget that these forums are easily accessible by anybody. Sorry to keep being a bore again Wink
