But there are some women who "park" their kids with a babysitter so they can go nighclubbing and looking for casual relationships. I wonder if they are acting very responsibly, too.
As for the lady whose son got burnt, I think poverty was the major culprit. There needs to be more compassion from the government towards single parents. The government here wants single mums (there never seems much word about single dads) to be forced back into jobs once their youngest child turns six.
I know of some people with autistic kids who are really worried as they have to be home during the day in case the school calls them to come and fetch their kids because they can't handle their behaviour. I don't think they'd have much chance of getting care for their children if they had to work a night job.
These policies ignore the fact that there are already too many people competing for jobs. The single mums are often stuck with low paying jobs, bad shifts and so on.
I seriously doubt that the mother in the article was able to find anyone else to mind her kids. Her own mother must not have been able to do it. Her own mother might have been dead or living hundreds or thousands of kilometres away or estranged from her.
The father could have been dead but he could just as easily have run off, leaving the mother to cope as best she could. I think it is absolutely dreadful that a single mum would be forced back into the job market when her child is only a baby.
There are rules here as to how hot water should be set at in hot water systems. I think it is 45 degrees celsius but that is still very hot and could easily injure a small child.
