I don't see where christianity has a monopoly on fanatics. It may seem that way in the USA because it is the numerical majority but it is not hard to see extremes in Islam and even Judaism. The occupation of the west bank and gaza strip is often defended by zionists as mandated by their biblical right to run the whole freaking region.

The bible commands that you should respect both God AND everyone. Everyone includes everyone, including Autistics. Respect them for who they are. Don't throw them away.

I bet the dude who wrote the page was SO tied onto all kinds of religious BS, he was against the idea of gay relationships and marraige. And he might possibly think the evolution theory is bullshit. Gosh, it really bothers me when people follow every single rule of their religion, including the discriminatory ones (no offense if you're deeply religious) Even one of my friends is way staight-edge Jewish. Sometimes we have debates on meat consumptin, since I'm vegetarian. She claims that "God put animals here so that us humans can have some use out of them." I think living things were put here to form communities and to add beauty to the planet. Humans, no doubt, are the most recently evolved animals, and therefore, have the greatest intellect. But they need to realise their impact on other species, take action, and then in thousands of years later, they will evolve into even more advanced species.
Still, prefer this guys approach to a cure over the others - no needles, tablets, prejudices, psychology sessions, poking, prodding or questions. They get to sit back and feel good about themselves doing nothing, and I get to go about my life uninteruppted by any well meaning do gooders =p

I think the reasoning is that God didn't intend for gays/ lesbians/ autistics to exist, and didn't create them, but that it was the result of the devil messing up god's perfect creation - just as any disease is, just as natural disasters are, etc. I wouldn't, for example, use the "if God didn't want it, why did he create it?" argument to talk about Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (for example) - so the argument only works once autism is classified as not a disease. Unfortunately certain people will still refuse to listen, just as with homosexuality. Still, if God only answers prayers that are prayed according to his will then PAN is nothing to worry about. Personally, I said my own version of the prayer suggested at the start of this thread, replacing "autism" with "prejudice".

We have to remember that right wing religion is what dominated society until the industrial revolution. It didn't start creeping into medicine until early in the 20th century (which is why Autism wasn't identified until 1943), and until then those with an ASD badly enough were treated like crap and thrown into the old asylums and hidden without understanding.
I knew that was the modus operande of those cranks. They want to go back to the old days thinking it will solve the world's problems - when in the old days we were at a higher level of intolerance (such as racism and so forth).
Now who really wants to go back to THAT?
