My son was born breech. His legs did this:

I wonder if the muscle tone problems that were noticed were related to dyspraxia, which a lot of aspies have.

Oh, so cute!!

I remember that Lauren was always very flexible as a baby, too. Although not to that extent!

Well, I think there was nothing wrong with my birth, it was fast - my mom used to say that I almost fell into the toilet    for the midwife did not expect the baby to come yet...

And I very certainly know there was nothing wrong with my aspie son and he had full apgar points both times they tested him - he was quite quick for a firstborn, too. But, yes, he has very flexible fingers and I am quite flexible, too for people of my age, I'm said.

The only one of mine that had difficulties at birth is the one that is NT!!

That's interesting: how many of us had/were fast births, I wonder?

I was in labour with Lauren for eight hours from start to finish, the midwife asked me if this was really my first!  And I was the first of four siblings, I believe mum was in labour for eleven hours, but longer for the others.  My NT sister has two, the first is an NT boy, he was 32 hours   but his little sister, who has been diagnosed Aspie, was around ten hours, although as she was the second child, the medical team weren't so surprised.

Perhaps we should conduct a poll into the question? This might be a trend for Aspies!

There isn't anything in the study's findings that surprises me, it just confirms that autism is a genetic condition. That's not to say that every autistic person appears abnormal as a newborn. As far as I know my own birth and babyhood was ordinary. My own kids had very good Apgar scores, but one did have feeding problems, seemed to lack the knack, which could be some kind of AS clumsiness.

I know from personal experience that if a baby is in any way unwell or comprimised in wellbeing, the health professionals make a big deal of checking for developmental problems, so maybe this could account for some of the increase in the diagnosis rate in these kids who were odd at birth.

Excellent point, I agree.
I agree too. I had two very difficult labours for both my kids, both ended in emergency sections. The difference was: my son, who's AS, wasn't in distress at all (the section in his case was due to my physical problems) while my daughter, who's NT (allegedly   ) was very much in distress whe the doctors decided to operate on me.

That had to hurt!  My daughter was born by c-section because her arm stuck out first.  The doctor was concerned she would injure it if she came out vaginally.

Ha!  I never thought of that! It would make your eyes water a bit, wouldn't it?

Apparently, my mom was in labor for at least 12 hours for me as I was the first and she's pretty petite. I did have seizures, but they started a few months after I was born. It wasn't until I was nearly 30 that I got the diagnosis of Asperger's as nobody knew about it until about 5 years ago.
