hi  i  am  parent  of  child  in  time out  room.  the  complaints  i  files  were  re:  time out  room  and  that  the  school  leaves  my  child  in  urine  and  feces.  all  over  the  states  this  is  happening  and  the  purpose  of  these  kids going  to  school  is  left  unknown.   my  son  is  not   currently  in  school  based on  the  abuse  that  is  happening,  you  know  what  hernando  county  has  not  initiated  truancy  and  my  son  has  been  our  3  months,  id  like  to  discuss  how  we  can  stand  up  and  fight  the cruel system  these  kids  are subjected  too.
Just to clarify your position, is this what you are saying -
Your son is in a school that uses a time out room, and he is being left there in his own urine and faeces, and you are concerned and made a complaint. You have now taken him out of school for three months because of this abuse.

Is that right?

How old is your son, and is he verbal?

We often see news articles about the abusive use of time out rooms, which are really sometimes just a locked closet.

Do you know any other parents in your county in the same position that would join with you to make a group complaint?
i  am  the  parent  that was in  the  newspapers  already.  the  dept. of ed  found  the time out  room  was  not  abuse  but  found  there  was  evidence  of  his  health  plan  not  being  followed.  i  am  saying  he  sits  in  urine  and  feces.  the  school  is  currently  going  to  "fix  this"  after  admitting  they  never  toileted  him  the  7  years  he  was  there.
there  are  many  parents  in  this  county  that  are  sick of  our  kids  being  locked  in  these  rooms  and  restrained and  left  to sit  in  their  own  wastes.
i  have  read  horror  stories  from  state  to  state  of  what  is  happening  in  these  schools  and  its  terrible.  i  think  parents  and  community's  need  to focus  a  bit  more  on  whats  going  on  here,  if  thewse  kids  were  regular  ed  kids misbehaving  and  being  locked in  little  rooms,  the  media  would  be  all  over  it  and it  would  be  called  abuse.
I totally agree. My son has been locked in rooms too, and 99% of the time complaints get ignored.
It is shocking the amount of abuse stories we read, and that members here have experienced.
We try to draw attention to abuse of this kind whenever we can.

Never a week goes by without us hearing of some new case, and often worse - far, far worse.
what  the  news  failed  to  mentioned  was  my  childs  medical  issues  , he  has  heart  condition, seizures  and  they  allowwed  my  son  to  bang  his  head  on  the  concrete  wall  in  the  locked  time  out  room  for  28  minutes. they  restrain  these  kids  every  day  without regard  to  what  doctors  say  or  order and  parents  are  forced  to  sit  back  and  watch as  this  abuse  and  neglect  linger  on..
when  you file  complaints  they  get you nowhere  except perhaps  more  aggravation  and  retaliation  against  the  child.  the  time  out room  in  my  sons  classroom  was  shut  down  but  not  the remaining  7  in  the  school,  it  makes  no  sense.  d.o.e.  will  never  rule  against  a  school,  they  can  not  afford  too  but  confidentially  they  will  tell  the parent  to  fight,  fight  to  who?
after  years  and  years  of  abuse  and  not  being  educated  the  parents  are  left  cleaning  up  the  schools'  mess  and  errors.
Sadly, school staff usually expect children to be toilet-trained by the time they start in first grade. It isn't realised that a child might be too shy to ask to go to the toilet (expecially if they are already in trouble with the teacher) or don't like the school toilets if they are dirty and smelly.

In the book "The Strange Incident Of The Dog In The Night Time", the young autistic boy could not use the school toilet because another boy had made a big mess there. He also had a horror of the colours brown and yellow.
