Full Version: How to obtain information from a NT

Have you also wondered why many questions you ask might never be answered by NTs? Have you also wondered why several of them comes to help you understand something if you say something that is completely wrong and make statements in public that are completely wrong?

If so, you might be on the right track!

I have figured out that in order to obtain information about a subject, one should not ask "how does this device work?". One should instead say:

"This device works by blablabla".

You will here pretend to be someone that knows something about the device, but those who know that what you say is wrong and really know how it works, will quickly answer you.

Funny, isnt it?

Dont ask a question. It is very unlikely you will get an answer.
Tell them how you think something is, then you get an answer.

NTs are not here to help us.
NTs are here to bother us in any way they can.

We can make use of this!
If you dont like asking NTs questions why dont you just avoid them?

If a tiger bites my hand I wont go back and pet it again and then complain.

Think about it.
Just find an NT who's focused intrest conincides with what you want to know and they'll happily give you their "expertise", although they'll only answer precisely what you ask, as opposed to an Aspie who'll explain the entire subject from the ground up because you asked "why".
dktekno, I am still puzzled by where or how you meet all these NTs.

:?:
On the internet.
Ah..ok. So you are asking these questions on the internet?

That would make more sense.

Is that the same for the theft of chewing gum question?

I don't see how this phenomenon is limited to NTs. An aspie who's not interested in talking to you, or is just a jerk, may very well refuse to answer your question as well.

On the Internet, if somebody sees a question, they'll assume somebody else will have more knowledge than them in that area and they won't reply.

If you say something that's obviously wrong, their desire for clarity will have them correct you if they think their knowledge is any better than yours, even if it isn't perfect.

Or maybe they're just showing off, but on the Internet that seems less likely.

Bear in mind that if you say something obviously wrong, those who read it before a correction is posted may think it is the truth.

I'd like to answer this with Kant: "act only on that maxim through which you can concomitantly will that it should become a universal law"

Sibylle

I will answer a question just for the joy of showing off my knowledge!   Sometimes I have to rein myself in before my enthusiasm outruns my expertise.  Maybe the NTs who have seemed reluctant to help you are actually holding back wisely because they're not sure they know enough to be helpful.  Also, some people (like me), may know exactly how to do or find or make something, but are poor teachers & can't accurately instruct anyone else.  I lived in one neighborhood for 8 years & still couldn't direct passing motorists to the lodge just a little way up the street because I am bad at spatial relations and couldn't visualize whether the driver would have to go straight or lean left.  As a pedestrian, I am useless to lost motorists anyway.

Maybe your unhelpful NT acquaintances are actually helping you the best way they can.  Better to give no answer than a wrong answer.
 Going to the point about lost motorists,i find it strange that they always ask ME! There could be a whole crowd of people going the same way,but they ignore them. Also have spatial problems and spend ages worrying if i've sent them into a dead end by mistake! I also have trouble with NT's thinking i know everything because i'm quiet and fairly articulate (sorry if this sounds a bit arrogant) Do i look like a 'people person?'
Unfortunately, if you project intelligence, you will become, in many people's minds, the designated leader/spokesman/"go-to" person of the group, whether you want to be or not.  As for motorists stopping you for directions...I don't know why THAT happens.  But I'm thinking about it right now!  OK, here's a thought: maybe the motorists feel safer speaking to ONE pedestrian than to a pair or cluster of them, which is why they bypass those rowdy extroverted groups of people walking down the sidewalk & single out little quiet US.  Well, if we send them into a dead end despite our best efforts, next time they'll bring a map. Cool
That is probably quite true with reguards to the motorists, the other problem with approching a group is the fact that most of the time when that happerns the whole group tries to answer the question each seaming to think they are better at directing than the others, either that or ignore you, both are either infuriating or utterly useless and incomprehendable, but it does seam to be the case that even NT's in general also seam to feel more comfortable approching a individual they do not know as opposed to a group they do not know.

I have found that asking a direct and detailed question will get an answer.

That's a load of tripe.  In fact, it sounds just like the way that people like to treat me for not instinctively adhering to their little sets of inscrutable social rules.
