I found this site Fight Autism Now. Its pretty regular NT parent stuff-
including the dreadful "Autism Cost Clock". It helpfully spells out how many are diagnosed in America, (stopping at age 22 for some reason, do we stop being autistic at 22?) and then showing the cost of our existence, and the time that another person will be diagnosed.
Its not very pleasant to have your existence only acknowleged by cost.
When they term it "fight autism" it sounds so much like they are fighting against us....I suppose really they are.  :?

Did you read this Amy?

(Bloody hell, must be the longest link in history) it's a curious mix of good sense (Drs are driven to prescribe drugs, reports of research that does not involve pharmaceuticals are largely suppresssed as are the reports of side effects, withdrawal is essentially a rejection of the human world that's presented to these babies) and trash (no genetic component, autism can be cured, beleif in God is essential). The intro is well worth a read as he makes many interesting observations, even if he does reach dodgy conclusions! It'd be good to get a list of his references?

Oh, I'm sorry, is compassion for your own children too expensive? Why don't you return him to the kiddy pound and get yourself a nicer kid...

I wonder how much ignorance is costing America on a daily basis?
I looked at that link anbuend, really makes me worry what the world will be like when my son grows up.

I wonder what the NT Cost Clock would look like. And I can almost picture it now. The person in the background would be a   Nt chewing gum. Then it would compare this to the NTs. And then "Amount Of Ignorance In America", which compares ignorance to tons.

:!: Mich :?:

Will this do?

That is very good Brightman, the cost of ignorance is massive and devastating.

Can we use it for our wiki entry on neurotypicals or not? Maybe I'll start the CAN/FAN/<<insert name of other simliar organization here>> parody that Gareth was talking about making. Say:

Cure All Neuro Typicals Now
a parody spoofing normal people of today

What do you think?

:!: Mich :?:

I think I'm flattered you want to use my image for it  Smile

Mich I think that statement was on a link to another site, that was adevertised from that site.

Until now I still thought that it's a good idea to use some of these interventions. But following the links cured me of that, and gave me some good insights on what they do to somebody autistic. If they would only listen to autistic people, and believe they know what they are thinking and feeling, they might really be able to help in some way. But it appears that these 'doctors' are so arrogant (and ignorant), that they do only harm and no good.

And too many parents really reject their autistic kids, and they want them 'cured' at all cost. They fail to see that these kids that learned to appear normal are still autistic! I suspect that most of us here on this site aren't obvious at first glance, and can pass for 'normal' for at least a while (until overload sets in, or we say something totally inappropriate, I am good at that). That doesn't mean we are 'cured', but just that we look normal to others.

Anyway, here is a link I found by following all the many links, which I find very interesting. It's a whole book on the Internet, written by an Aspie (who died in an accident) on how to get by in society, explaining some of the unwritten rules.

Well I had to look at the "quote" to read this post; what kind of typewidth are you using Uschi? I recognise the link though, he was really a little too inexperienced to write such a book, but it was a damn good start, and the guy is a great loss!

Well it's fixed now, as I can read your post without scrolling from side to side (did anyone else get this problem?) but you are right, he had terrific insights, so it's a loss to us all he can no longer develop his skills!

Uschi, it's all my fault!! I (inadvertently) introduced a ridiculously long link, and it seems the page adjusted accordingly! You just happened to be the one who responded with more than one line.
